A reminder that if I ever get a backpiece it'll probably be this.

@trib@aus.social @elzbethmrgn@aus.social I began but discovered that I have more than 160GB of Kindle stuff to download. (Rather, that's how much downloaded before my disk filled up, as the Kindle app doesn't actually check disk space - it just fails if there's not enough room.)

@elzbethmrgn@aus.social @trib@aus.social I did note that this might be US-specific. A bunch of countries including us aren’t receiving the warning, and even the latest books I’ve purchased there seem to be non-KFX format downloadable. I just need to send them all to the kindle and then pull from there as I am not downloading thousands through a three-click web process.

@trib@aus.social @elzbethmrgn@aus.social I'm also hoping the "forget it Jeff, it's Australiatown" comes into play.
(editor: no, it didn't.)
There was talk for the longest time that switching from US to AU store would cause you to lose content. Turns out it's not the case, but it took a long time to get the information, and none of the ereader sites could confirm either way. Turns out you don't lose stuff, but the fact the best anyone even inside the company could come up with was a shrug was... alarming.

@trib@aus.social @elzbethmrgn@aus.social TLDR? Ehhhhh, I'll just think more about where I source ebooks from TBH. My library size is gonna make any action the fuckin' worst.

US friends: how good is the Criterion Channel's subscription? How do you find it?

@trib@aus.social @elzbethmrgn@aus.social I need to look into this, as it seems to be the way to do it in bulk if everything's on your Kindle. I haven't got time to fuck about downloading old versions of the Kindle app etc etc.
(I've been downloading from Amazon's site and it sucks, basically, though I assume they're tied to the same serial number as it asks you to specify a device).

@trib@aus.social @elzbethmrgn@aus.social They rolled Comixology into the Kindle shopfront which means you get 1GB compendia alongside 250kb ebooks. It's fucked.
(And some books, including print-replica versions, won't DL to a Kindle anyway, so it'll either be Mac or iPad reads for those. Print reps generally suck, though: think terrible image PDFs.)
Having said that, I've been buying books (mostly for cheap) on the Kindle since about 2018. I think there's about 3k on there, give or take.
