Only one late night shift later, C3BBS is now also reachable via gopher, NNTP and even the browser based telnet client at https://c3bbs.retronetworking.org/ @c3isdn@chaos.social #38C3 #retronetworking
CCC Event BBS
mastodon 4.6.9Feed related to C3BBS, a BBS related to CCC (Chaos Computer Club) events. You can dial into it from the OCTOI network at 49-30-1234-3333 and from @c3isdn@chaos.social at #38C3 at extension 919898 (and 919889=PETSCII40 / 919890=PETSCII80)
lol. @certbund@social.bund.de has just notified us that operating a telnet service is insecure. Kind of funny for a project that intentionally operates ancient networking protocols and systems (like C3BBS) as a museum ;) - Not a complaint, just ironic in this specific case.. #retronetworking @c3isdn@chaos.social
In case anyone is interested in creating CCC related #ANSI artwork for C3BBS: Pesthoernchen and Chaosknoten (for 80x24 terminals) would be great, fro a start. #followerpoer #38C3. Synchronet also supports RIP, in case somebody wants to create #CCC related RIP graphics, please let us know!
We now have #38C3 badges: One for BBS logins via IP and another one for dial-up via actual Modem or ISDN using the @c3isdn@chaos.social network on-site. The latter is not yet possible a the network is still being built. The badge for IP based login to the BBS is available already now: You can find the ANSI-BBS QR code for the badge in the Text file section of C3BBS. #BBS #retronetworking
The BBSs listsed at the
#38C3 ISDN/PSTN phonebook are now all reachable at the indicated numbers. Now that the access network and the RAS server are configured, we can try to get more doors/services at the C3BBS working. Please do try to dial up some of the BBSs! #retronetworking https://osmocom.org/projects/retronetworking/wiki/38C3_Phonebook
@mischk@bunt.social indeed, a configuration error. only affected retro-IP (IPv4); IPv6 was running throughout the night. Should now be fixed.
@RolandRides@mastodon.social @c3isdn@chaos.social There was a conversation with Ray about this; I don't hae high hopes on how realitsic it is to port 1990s OS/2 C++ code to modern C++ on Linux, but at least he has heard about that idea now.
@RolandRides@mastodon.social I spoke to ray yesterday and it seems he was not aware of @c3isdn@chaos.social and hence did not bring any equipment. He also cannot turn on his BBS remotely, otherwise we could have configured a telnet forward from the RAS server.
@RolandRides@mastodon.social sadly we've been busy for many days building the @c3isdn@chaos.social (EWSD exchange, SDH transport network, V5 access network) and are now slowly moving up the stack in terrms of services. I doubt there will be much time for doors that are unrelated to CCC (like chaospost), sorry.
