What We Want for May Day
What do we want for May Day? In short, to take another step towards freedom from all forms of oppression—towards what we call anarchy, by which we mean egalitarian relationships based in self-determination, solidarity, and mutual aid. Anarchists have been central to May Day since its origins as a labor holiday in 1886, when police in Chicago attempted to suppress anarchist labor organizers who were fighting for right to the eight-hour workday. Today, as intensifying authoritarianism propels more and more people into action, we have a window of opportunity to make real change. Towards that end, we present some starting points and a handbill to promote them.

RE: @DrALJONES@mastodon.social
USians need to come out against this war, yes. But even more important, we have to recognize it as the long-running imperialism that it is. We are a violent empire that profits from violence, resource theft, kidnapping, and arms dealing. The majority of USians seem to accept the built-in violence of colonialism that is central to the founding of this nation and has been present throughout. That violence defines the core of what we are.
Is it any wonder that we have a violence problem within our nation?
Freedom? Liberty? Justice? Democracy? No. Those have only ever been a facade to hide the workings of a ruling class and capitalism. But it goes back even further, an organization of society based on domination and hierarchy.
If we truly want the things we claim to already have we'll have to turn over this cart and do the work of building something new. We'll have to do the hard work of uprooting a culture built on layers of dominance and exploitation.
It should be clear to anyone at this point (it's been clear for a very long time) that Israel is a racist, terrorist, apartheid state bent on genocide and continued land theft. There are no limits to their depravity.
How does anyone continue to support this or even tolerate it? Fully documented and supported? Zionists are doing a Nazi-like genocide, Nazi-like terrorism, at what point will they be condemned as the Nazis are?
And of course, the US is an equal partner in this mass criminality. Whatever humans survive into the future will look back at the US and Israel as the Nazis of this century.

May 1 is the original day for celebrating the working class, International Working People's Day. Across the US and the world we're out today to continue the fight begun over a hundred years ago. From the young women that walked out of the mills in Lowell MA in 1836 to the Haymarket labor militants that fought for the 8 hour day in Chicago in 1886 to today. We continue that fight.
We're rebuilding the US labor movement. We're defending our immigrant neighbors. We're building tenant unions.
WE. BUILT. THIS. WORLD. It's time we started acting like it. Direct action, mass actions, help us build people power. Building a mass movement is how we build democracy from the bottom up. It's how we build solidarity in our communities, with our neighbors and with our fellow workers. Meeting face-to-face on the streets and in living room meetings is how we deepen our commitment to the daily struggle for our world.

Ready for May Day? We're mobilizing nationwide. We've got events scheduled across #Missouri for tomorrow. Our event in Farmington #MO kicks off at 9am. We'll have a roving picket, food, and tables with pamphlets about the history of International Workers Day, the use of the mass mobilizations like the general strike.
Events like this are ongoing practice for continued mobilizations that will intensify into multi-day disruptions to break the hold of capitalism and the state on our lives.
We're not organizing for reforms or electoral politics, we're organizing to build mass, popular power. This fight isn't just resistance, it is for the full emancipation of the working class from the state and capitalism. Accept nothing less.
We're not asking for scraps. The working class built this world. We do the work, so we're taking it all back.
This is our world. Fight for it. Organize for it.

Watch and share. These are exactly the kinds of projects we should be building if we want to abolish capitalism. Support them if you already have them, start them if you don't. This is the direct action that helps build community democracy, solidarity, capacity and resilience.
"A four-part, independently produced documentary series putting a finger on the pulse of community-led survival projects confronting crisis with care.
Weaving together over 60 voices and profiling 15 groups across North America, the series explores the origins, structures, healing ways, and logistics of collective organizing."

What we've seen in MN with middle class white folks putting themselves in harms way to protect their neighbors shows the spirit of what should serve as our path forward. The extension of empathy into action as solidarity. And going forward this is what we need not just in resisting fascism but in all of our efforts.
We need to dig deep for broad #solidarity in recognition that our real power comes from solidarity across all our superficial differences. Our politics should not be based on focus groups, calculations, establishment strategy but simply the value and principle of solidarity in service to all of us, the 99% that is the working class.
- Universal Healthcare
- Universal Basic Income
- Opening the electoral process to multiple parties
- Building of our movement outside of the political process: Workers in workplaces and community folk in neighborhoods building #labor organizing, mutual aid, self defense and lived, grassroots #democracy at the street level.
Just finished this podcast series by Crimethinc: No wall they can build. So well done and also available as a book. An interweaving of stories from desert aid workers in their time with migrants struggling across the desert southwest with analysis of what is going on with the migration from Mexico and south of Mexico with specific looks at Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador. And, of course, constant and direct US interventions have been critical for the duration. It will come as no surprise that decades of US foreign policy in these countries was on behalf of US-based capitalists, for example, United Fruit Company. It always is.
We live in and under a brutally violent system of state and capital though we don't usually see the direct brutality ourselves nor do we acknowledge it when we should.
If we're not actively organizing to abolish this system we should own our role in allowing it to exist.

"On May 1, 2026, workers, students, and families rally, march, and take action across the country to demand a nation that puts workers over billionaires, with many refusing business as usual through No School. No Work. No Shopping."
I would also add: No #War No #Imperialism #No Genocide All of our organizing should reflect a commitment to #international #Solidarity. Our struggle for freedom has to be rooted in our understanding that we've been on the wrong side. It's time to fix this. We have to disrupt #Capitalism. They have to learn that we're done cooperating with our own subjugation and the subjugation of the rest of the world in our name and in the name of #empire.
We've gotten a start organizing for our event in rural #Missouri

Excellent discussion. I especially appreciated the repeated reminder that in closing the Strait of Hormuz Iran is now doing to the world what the US has been doing to Cuba, and what Israel and the US have been doing to Gaza. How does it feel to get punched back? How does it feel to be denied an essential resource. And this blockade is only a few weeks old and has, to this point, not actually impacted supply. Imagine years of a blockade that denies fuel, food, and medical supplies.
After years of restraint in the face of repeated US aggression Iran is giving the world a taste of what we've been dishing out to others. They're offering direct resistance to #US #Imperialism and colonization. The US is and always has been an agent of #colonization. The US is #empire.
It's not enough that we oppose the US #war against #Iran, we have to oppose US Imperialism as a long running practice. We have to oppose Empire.

"Professor Munira Khayyat is speaking from Beirut, where she's currently hosting over 30 displaced families as Israel expands its invasion of South #Lebanon...
she explains why the "peace" that followed World War II was only peace for the powerful — and permanent war for everyone else. From South Lebanon to #Gaza, from the Cold War to today, war has never been an aberration. It's a feature of the system.
• What is happening in Lebanon right now — 1.5 million displaced, bombardment of Beirut, occupation expanding
• Why Western theories of war treat it as an exception when it's a permanent condition for most of the world
• How #capitalism, #empire, and #settlercolonialism converge in the war on Lebanon
• The 22-year Israeli occupation and the roots of Lebanese #resistance
• Life as resistance — how people survive in conditions designed to make survival impossible
• Why borders drawn by Europeans still define who lives and who dies
To summarize crudely: If we do not organize to overthrow these systems we contribute to their existence.
Social Anarchism and Organization:
"To be disorganised, poorly organised or isolated means not to constitute an adequate resistance to capitalism and the state and, consequently, not managing to significantly increase the social force of the organisation that must have as an objective to replace them with libertarian socialism. We can say that “whoever doesn’t organise themselves, who doesn’t seek the co-operation of others and does not offer theirs under conditions of reciprocity and solidarity, puts themselves necessarily in a state of inferiority... Disorganisation, poor organisation and isolation, in fact, end up supporting capitalism and the state – seeing as though they do not allow for the construction of the necessary social force. By not taking part, in an appropriate manner, in the relation of force or the permanent conflict of society you end up reproducing“order.”
"Where the universe knows only what is, we have imposed upon it arbitrary relations such as private ownership, status, domination, obedience, and so on. Yet none of these can cover up our origins within the ecology, nor can they remake what the universe is. Every single process we carry out is foundationally predicated on the utilization of ecological growth, the long processes of natural chemistry, and our coincidentally hospitable place within the solar system." - Daniel Baryon, 'A Modern Anarchism"

Working with SEMO DSA recently and simultaneously reading through the various Especifismo texts and Black Rose literature I've been asking myself how do I proceed in this small town in rural southern #MO? Watching part 1 of The Elements of Mutual Aid yesterday was inspiring and I'm not new to starting mutual aid projects. But the flip-side of mutual aid is that depending on how it's organized in context, it can end up being a never-ending box of band aids rather than a challenge to established power structures: #capitalism and the state.
I'm planning to try a weekly or twice a month mutual aid distro in town and while I'll be offering political lit along-side of food, clothing, and other things, it still leaves a gap. In terms of being a part of a larger movement to challenge to power, it doesn't lead anywhere on its own. What is the larger context, the larger campaign in a small town in rural MAGA #US? I'm working to define that.
