@lauren@mastodon.laurenweinstein.org ~ Long ago, I was a talk being given by Mr. Bradbury; when a drunken woman interrupts him shouting, she is escorted from the room. Later I learned it was Ayn Rand and even later I realized the symbolism of what happened. His writing rang true while hers led us into this drunkenness. 😞
I have been resurrecting an old hobby. My first of this series is a Japanese Black Pine. I am in the welcoming stage of this Bonsai.

"Ask any Mexican, any Puerto Rican, any black man, any poor person - ask the wretched how they fare in the halls of justice, and then you will know, not whether or not the country is just, but whether or not it has any love for justice, or any concept of it. It is certain, in any case, that ignorance, allied with power, is the most ferocious enemy justice can have."

"Humanism is an approach to life which encourages ethical and fulfilling living on the basis of reason and humanity, and rejects superstition and religion. The most immediate impact of living as a Humanist is that we believe this life is all there is - so what we do and the choices we make really count."

“We might be tempted to think that our democratic heritage automatically protects us from such threats. This is a misguided reflex. Our own tradition demands that we examine history to understand the deep sources of tyranny, and to consider the proper responses to it. We are no wiser than the Europeans who saw democracy yield to fascism, Nazism, or communism in the twentieth century. Our one advantage is that we might learn from their experience. Now is a good time to do so.”
