@Brendanjones Sure, I'm speculating here, hence "probably."
And sorry if I overlooked something, I can just see one post for whatever reason.

I think a lot of the contracts are about to be broken. I hope the equilibrium is to focus on relationships more (think retention instead of reach), but I’m not sure that’s true and whether the overall frenzy in the attention market will allow it.

I am sure everyone in the Kanzleramt who prepared this meeting, the people who bought a golden frame, made sure it's not too expensive given the recent rise in gold prices and Germany's laws limiting the value of gifts on levels below a luxury Airbus 350, who coached Merz how to be just the right kind of manly, are now very happy about the outcome of the meeting.
Whenever I read about the lopsided economics of AI, I dread what will happen once the honeymoon will have ended and companies need to make money again. I hope efficiency will be at a level by then that the 20€/month price bracket will work out without brutal enshittification or privacy nightmares.

@bennjordan You have the words “trans people are xx” in your tweet - maybe the algorithm just didn’t get the contextualisation? It’s not a simple sentence…

@kissane I was never a fan of defederating out of principle, yet it might soften the blow if there are some gateway instances (the bigger ones) that smaller ones can hide behind. Given how easy it is to have multiple accounts, it’s not a huge problem to have a different account from which to interact with threads.
But contra claims to defederate totally this would mean to keep the connection to other (non threads, non alt right) instances and not fight their decision.

@Brendanjones Wasn’t the timeline the other way round? The German case was a week ago, so Meta‘s decision not to launch threads is probably following that ruling. When using WhatsApp (then) Facebook agreed to not share data which they then did nonetheless. In view of the cases it makes sense for them to now be more careful. These might well be practical challenges to comply more carefully and show some goodwill.
It’s messy, but it’s a technical and legal mess, not morally.

@inthehands@hachyderm.io It has been quite common especially for basso continuo, but as someone educated classically this is now hard to imagine. Do you know Vikingur Ólafsson’s work? I appreciate his very free interpretations of Bach.

@DrPsyBuffy@mstdn.social It’s a wild garden that needs the occasional (follower) pruning, but after that it can be fun!
