I’m going to lose my mind if I get any more support tickets where someone has cut and pasted the output from Claude instead of telling me what the problem actually was. My job has basically turned into guessing what bad info Claude has given

Does that mean I can do back? If So, I’ll wear my “fuck the trumps” shirt I only know how to play clarinet (and marginally), but it’s probably no worse than Ed’s shitty music anyway

No way? Apple? OMG… They’d never… Would they? In case people haven’t worked it out, Apple’s business model has always been screw-everyone, to the point that they even sent out letters to other resellers customers (at a unrelated Apple reseller) to buy Applecare… In fact, I would be surprised if they also weren’t using the App store metrics to identify ideas/apps they should copy and target too (or, companies to buy).

In their defence, the one thing AI does do well is Code review. But, it makes too many absolutely sh** assumptions when helping customers troubleshooting. I feel the problem is that because its a paid tool, it’s not a good look if they simply acknowledge “we’re guessing, and its a crap guess”

When I was selling Apple gear, there was a lady who told another customer in front of me as I was talking to them, that Mac’s can’t get viruses lol I have noticed though, that yeah… The same overconfident donkeys that exist everywhere else, are now in IT telling IT people that their toddlerbot is smart

My only issue with Ubuntu is that snap feels fairly clunky. That’s why I moved to fedora. Also, definitely worth looking at pop os. But, all of them come down to personal preference I think these days, Linus Torvalds moved to fedora

Apple only updates their computers for about 6-7 years. After that, no new MacOS updates. Architecture changes are unrelated, but, yes, they did that twice in the past 20 years (Microsoft and Linux both support mostly the same architectures they always did, with the itanium builds, or other funky architectures that never succeeded). In contrast, even Microsoft only JUST broke backwards compatibility with old processors (and, have only done it once)… And I’m not even sure that’s a hard cut off (as, I’ve seen older CPU’s than 7XXX series with windows 11 being sold) Apple profits on both the OS, and the hardware directly. They’re in full control, and it isn’t as though they need to support a RANGE of hardware. And they charge a premium for this hardware. As BJW mentioned, even worse, developers hoping to develop for Mac OS or IOS NEED to buy an Apple computer to ensure compatibility with the latest builds. Microsoft doesn’t force you to buy a Surface if you want to develop for them. On Linux, you don’t need a specific system either

Yeah, I bought a Mac Studio, Mac Pro, and used to own a powerMac G5. The worst part was that Apple sucks at GPU’s and always did. I dumped my Mac Pro when I realised the GPU was totally crap compared to PC half the price on the market, and there was no official way to update it, and keep using MacOS.

Depends on your needs. If there are packages for everything you need, thats fine. Also, its fine if you don’t mind going to the sites and downloading directly. I have a few packages which are easier to use on flathub though. I also find Gnome Software centre and discover are a lot cleaner than Ubuntu’s software used for package management. Ubuntu these days has 15 years of software support though. Both are fine in practice.

Better off going elsewhere for Linux. Linux will always be a second class citizen for Apple.

I used to sell them. The reality is, Apple Succeeded by lying about their stability, people thought they couldn't get viruses, and people wiling to overlook their f***-ups. Here in Australia, a week before Boot camp was released, i actually showed a national sales manager how we got Windows running on a Mac mini, and told him how it would be a great transition technology. He basically tried to make me look like an idiot in front of customers in our showroom. A week later, boot camp was released. The same guy returned, and was repeating all the same arguments I made a week ago, and was proud of them, acting like Apple's was brilliant. I got no apology. I should have called him out at the time, burnt my bridges and demanded an apology. The things Microsoft and Google did are honestly less bad than honestly. Apple blatantly lied about a lot of things, stood on stage and pretended like they had full rights to multitouch, and they had invented it. In fact, Microsoft bailed out Apple in 1997, and the moment they started recovering, they treated Microsoft like crap

Only in some communities it was… And, the lack of censorship wasn’t a good thing. It allowed absolute shtshow’s like thedonald or fatpeoplehate to exist way too long. And, I’d argue that Reddit is at least partially responsible for a lot of f’ed up shit that many countries are now facing, but empowering those weirdos

It won’t… The difference is that the feed will be shorter for the day, so doom scrolling will be more boring

well… No… You don’t have any evidence that what you’re saying will be true… And, you don’t have any better suggestions. I think maybe you don’t understand the law… Getting rid of the algorithm basically means that you’ll be given a list of posts you subscribed to… That’s it. It’s easy to skip ads (we do it on a daily basis). The big issue is at the moment, there is no stop to the feed. Even if they shove in 10 ads, the feed ends fairly quickly if you’re only subscribed to 100 people (you start hitting posts you saw yesterday). People are scrolling for 30mins or longer at the moment, because the feed never ends. The other issue is false advertising. IF it gets excessive, Meta will likely be pushing (more) deceptive ads too, and will likely just meet a new legal challenge

I operate meetup events. My choices are meetup which is overpriced, or Facebook. Unless you have any suggestions Also, the benefit of this stretches far what I do. It’s the easily corrupted dckheads who won’t be absorbing this stuff on a daily basis. The reality is, I believe a huge factor in all the shit going on is Facebook at the moment. Laws like this are highly beneficial

AI makes you a researcher these days. Every dumbfuck who never finished school and has no training is delighted it can make them seem smart. I’ve literally had arguments with customers who have told me the “facts” based on my own code logs and explain API’s to me and what they do, in products I’ve been maintaining for years. The biggest problem is that there is no incentive for AI to say they’re wrong

I don’t have a tesla, but It’s not likely going to slam the brakes, and valet mode will likely be shown to the driver so they know its enabled. Furthermore, it IS a protected function. It’s not like its exposed, and not a normal situation where someone abuses it Again though, I have experience with highly abusive people. Someone who ended up LITERALLY decapitated threatened me, and told me ex “he knows where I live”. I had someone swerve at me when driving, and it turned out to be an ex of the girl I was dating. And, I’ve been given the “don’t XXX or else…” talk too by 2 people. When I was swerved at, I thought it was someone on their phone, I just happened to show the woman. I still wonder if one day I found a fence post nailed to the tree outside was one of them These abusers DO NOT GIVE A SHIT IF YOU’RE DRIVING A TESLA, THEY WILL FIND ANOTHER WAY TO ABUSE PEOPLE!!! There already is a lot of protection on these functions. Removing one, will just cause them to use another. Trust me… When we removed Find my phone access from these people, we BELIEVE he possibly put a GPS tracker on her car instead

I’ve never understood the point of these articles. What does anyone gain by attacking other linux distro’s? It’s not like people don’t give Linux Mint a chance… I’m not a fan of Snap, but, there are many who are… Ubuntu also offers SLA’s to companies (15 years support) and Linux Mint doesn’t offer paid support, and there are likely many other reasons to use Ubuntu over LinuxMint. Use what best suits your requirements.

I’ve been saying this for a while. Of course, our right wing nut jobs won’t vote for it because they need rage bait to get votes (and normal people don’t post rage bait). If this passes, Australia will turn sane again
