Remembering the time that a friend of mine tried to argue that polyamory is actually inherently racist and colonialist because its just a bunch of white people trying to appropriate the non-monogamous, non-hierarchical forms of kinship structure that existed in pre-colonial societies, and I had to explain to them that sometimes, in your attempts to be progressive, you can loop yourself back around into being deeply puritanical and reactionary.

Anyway, if this is the best we can do, I don't think we're getting out of patriarchy alive, bestie.

It is kind of a shame that "taste" (in the sense of like aesthetic discernment) got tied to class distinction in the way that it did because I do think that it is a valuable concept/skill to have. Like, being able to distinguish between things that are absolute dogshit and things that aren't dogshit, and being able to keep that distinction clear -- even if only for yourself -- is kind of important, I think. I also think its okay to admit that some things are abysmal dogshit.

Two cop cars crashed into each other like a block from my house recently, and I just think that's neat. Wish more cops would get injured while destroying police property like that.

Someone should make a The Substance-style movie called The Vitamin based off of hit tumblr post about "the Vitamin," but its a scathing critique of the wellness industry and how wellness influencers use the desire for (and fantasy of) "the Vitamin" to get people (especially women) to spend tons of money on unregulated supplements and wellness retreats.

I love going to the beach and seeing sea creatures (seals, otters, whales) but not pointing them out to anyone else around. It feels like a little secret that me and the animal are sharing.

Joy, no matter who is experiencing it, is not ever in itself an act of resistance or revolution. I'm sorry but its just not. The systems that oppress you are impersonal and do not care if you experience joy or not. They can use your joy just as easily as your suffering to maintain, sustain, and expand themselves. The world does not operate on Care Bears logic.

Suffering dilates time such that all suffering is infinite. Joy is fleeting to the point of insignificance and imperceptibility.

Not to be all "linguistic solutions to material problems are worse than useless," but doing research into the impacts of homelessness and seeing the number of recent articles doing linguistic gymnastics to try and use person first language is frustrating, to say the least. What do you mean "people experiencing living with homelessness"? Jfc.

My boyfriend's mom keeps saying that she wants to get to know me better but every time we're together, all she does is talk about herself and order us around to do chores for her. I don't think she's ever asked me a question about myself.

One of my all time favourite things is when people leave their stuff unattended on the beach and the crows and seagulls start stealing it.

Hell yeah, little criminals.

Honestly, the entire concept of "generations" has become just another form of biological essentialism under the guise being of a social constructivist theory of behaviour.

Like, obviously we should improve the social conditions that make some people feel like suicide is their only/best option. But I also think more people should be killing themselves if that's genuinely what they want.

It should be illegal for autocorrect to change words that you've spelled correctly because it thinks you meant a different word for some reason. Unlimited Butlerian jihad against all AI forever.

There's this insane thing that happens (primarily) in academia where people will constantly complain about how Foucault is the "most cited scholar" in Western academia (as if that were a valid criticism all on its own), but its also immediately obvious that these people have never read anything by Foucault. Or if they have, they have an extremely bad understanding of what his actual arguments are. And it's like: okay, the real problem you're pointing out is that people cite Foucault for a kind of academic clout without actually knowing what they're talking about. Which is a real problem. But the people complaining about this are also largely contributing to the problem by not knowing what they're talking about, because they haven't actually read any Foucault, and so aren't in a position to judge whether his work is being referenced and used correctly or not. Its so frustrating.
