We’ve come to a point that legitimate IT tools behave like scam/viruses.
A colleague installed an app and suggested others in the team try it.
The thing started sending emails with invitations and reminders to me and other team members, with the name and the profile picture of our colleague, saying that our colleague is waiting for us to join him.
When chatting with him informally, I brought up the issue (sorry I didn’t download your app, I’m using something else instead), and he - a tech savvy person - had no idea these emails were being sent.
So:
1) the thing impersonates someone you know without their knowledge
2) it messages all your close contacts (in this case, team members)
3) there is a link to download some software
It is *precisely* what we have always been told to look out for to avoid viruses and scams.
