The sentencing of activists who organized peaceful vigils to commemorate the Tiananmen crackdown is a triple tragedy. Not only is the punishment unjust for them and the victims of the crackdown, but it also denies generations of Hongkongers the space to discuss one of the most consequential events in modern Chinese history.

Lawyer Chow Hang-tung was sentenced to seven years and three months in prison, and fellow activist Lee Cheuk-yan was sentenced to seven years - despite them committing no internationally recognized crime. They must be immediately and unconditionally released.

The UN voted in favour of a resolution to formally phase out the commonly used 16th century Mercato world map. The resolution rightfully acknowledges that the map’s distortions contribute to a ‘symbolic minimisation’ of Africa, perpetuating historical biases. The resolution encourages governments, schools, tech companies and international organizations to use the Equal Earth projection going forward, which depicts Africa and other continents accurately. In the words of Togo’s foreign minister Robert Dussey who spearheaded the resolution, "a fair world begins with a fair map."

We are deeply alarmed by the disturbing reports of #HussamAbuSafiya being subjected to continued beatings, deliberate sleep deprivation, and threats against divulging his detention conditions while in Israeli custody.

In the so-called 'conspiracy case,’ the Tunis Court of Cassation has chosen to uphold unjust convictions and prison sentences for a group of 34 opposition figures, lawyers, and human rights defenders after a sham trial. This is a devastating blow to justice that exposes the authorities’ determination to silence all remaining opposition. We call for an end to the misuse of the criminal justice system as a tool for political repression in Tunisia.

According to UNICEF and latest reports, over 270 children across #MENA have been killed since 28 February, with most children killed in #Iran and #Lebanon. These figures are staggering and escalating. They are a stark testament to the toll that conflict is taking on children.

Over a month after Indian police deployed unlawful and deadly force against peaceful protesters at the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led "Chalo Sansad" march, not a single officer in Delhi has been held accountable.

On X, the Delhi Police publicly denied any disproportionate use of force, repeating it before India’s Supreme Court, describing its handling of the protest as “professional”. Evidence gathered by Amnesty International directly contradicts this account.

We call on Indian authorities to order a prompt, impartial and effective investigation into the use of firearms, birdshot ammunition, tear gas, lathis and electric shock weapons against protesters in Delhi and Siwan, and to publish its findings.
