Definitely know the Fleetwood Mac, the Indigo Girls, the Cars, the Tragically Hip...maybe the Big Star, Incubus and Stereolab. (The Mighty Lightweights, I seem to recall, was an album that I bought on eMusic by accident when I just wanted to preview it.)

#FortnightFridayMusic for September 18 2026 the theme is "Chocolate"
Artist: Ween
Album: Chocolate & Cheese (1994)
Song: Voodoo Lady

Ween are...I don't even know. Dark genre pastiche artists who commit to the bit? Chameleons who don't have one true style, voice or face. They Might Be Giants on really hard drugs, I said once. I don't even know. Not afraid to push the envelope too far. They did a song for South Park and maybe that's the closest analogue. Anyway, this song is basically a disco pastiche with a fuzz-guitar psychedelic break in the middle. I always think it's longer than it is.
The video is devoid of black people and has reverse video and flashing lights in it. Hadn't seen it before.

#FortnightFridayMusic for April 3 2026 the word is "Blue"
Artist: Style Council
Album: Absolute Beginners Soundtrack (1986)
Song: Have You Ever Had It Blue

I've never been an unreserved Paul Weller fan. Whether with the Jam, or the Style Council, or solo, I find his output uneven. But this song is one of my favourites. It was apparently written for the "Absolute Beginners" movie musical (which I've never seen, but I do have the soundtrack album), and the melody was reused, with more political lyrics, for the song "With Everything To Lose" from the album "Internationalists"/"Our Favourite Shop". (Not the other way around, as I thought until today, because "Internationalists" came out first...)
