aglimme

@AkaSci@fosstodon.org this is my feeling as well, when you look at what happens to going to school etc. especially in the norther parts of the US I think itt makes a lot of sense.

@codemonkeymike@fosstodon.org @Epic_Null@infosec.exchange @Gargron@mastodon.social I totally agree that there should be a mechanism to totally unlock the machine, this however, sounds like a great way to harass someone. Steal their laptop or phone, then constantly ask to unlock. Seeing that pop-up over and over would be so annoying. Also laptop theft from cafes where I live is definitely a significant issue. Just want to point out that there are legitimate reason to brick hardware.

@lispi314@udongein.xyz @codemonkeymike@fosstodon.org @Epic_Null@infosec.exchange @Gargron@mastodon.social To be fair, we have definitely had groups of thieves run into a cafe grab several laptop out of peoples hands and then jump into a waiting car. Multiple times thieves have rammed a stolen car into the Apple store, grabbing thousands of dollars worth of stuff. Designing systems to make theft less profitable is something a lot of people want. Of course there are good ways to do it and you should absolutely be able to unlock a donated device.

@codemonkeymike@fosstodon.org @Gargron@mastodon.social Oh no all the stolen MacBooks are useless, what will we do!?!? Honestly all snark aside I’d love for the market for stolen Macs to go down more than the recycle market to go up.

@caseyliss I just use the Synology built in Video Station

@sarae@ecoevo.social That sucks, sorry that happened to you.
