@anildash@me.dm And yes, their tactics, such as showing up, authenticity, relentless focus on what matters to the voters and above all: a feeling of voting FOR something is what really made the difference. A positive choice is always much, much stronger than being against something. We all want a better tomorrow!

@reichenstein I feel that it is, at least in parts/pockets. It’s one of the reasons why I like living here, despite the plethora of other challenges — it feels like there’s always room for new and different ideas, including people cheering you on or investing in said ideas. (I sometimes describe it as a “yes, and…” culture vs. the “no, but…” culture you often encounter in Europe; this is heavily oversimplified, of course.) Anyway… maybe worth exploring in another context. :)

@anildash@me.dm yes, it is. In fact, it’s a blueprint that isn’t all that new: it’s the core ideas of Category Design applied to a politician. (Note: my consulting firm offers exactly that, for both companies and their products but also for individuals such as politicians.) The strategy is pretty simple: explain to your customers (voters) how your product (you) solves their problems.

@reichenstein ha, yes, I can see that; a well thought-out argument often turns into “too much material”… editing it down, giving it room to breathe is a craft that requires practice. But I’m sure those in the audience who paid close attention got out of it what you wanted to leave them with. Expand on the last sentence… I’m not sure I’m following, but it sounds like I want to understand your thought :)

@reichenstein it’s an interesting social construct, though. If you look at European (esp. Nordic) societies, sticking out / deviating from “normal” is not a thing one does lightly. In other areas of the world, contrarians are more accepted, sometimes even celebrated.

But I do agree with you that it would improve the ending if you did, in fact, say it out loud. Hey, I’m sure you’ll get to deliver a v2 of that talk somewhere soon.

Tried to give German rail service another chance. The day starts with delays, ticking up every few minutes and with ever changing explanations: first delayed preparation of the train (how the hell do they fuck up the beginning of the journey already?) to later a “sudden staff illness”… 🙈
