I've been seeing more spam (random DMs and follow requests) in the last week or so - remember that you can report accounts that send you spam to your local instance admins, who can then forward the reports onto the remote server :neocat_floof:

hello the instance currently has a discord group chat for downtime announcements and other miscellaneous discussions about shorks, however we are close to the limit on size for discord group dms, and i don't really want to make a whole server (also discord isn't a particularly great platform for a lot of things either).
the best option other than that is probably a signal group chat (because matrix is a burning ball of fire), does this sound like a remotely good idea?

should i modify shorks's alt text warning patch to make alt text mandatory when posting from the web UI? (i'm not going to enforce it at an API level since that seems like a pain, and afaik everyone on this instance uses the PWA/browser anyway)

hello!
i'm currently trying to work out how to handle announcements for the instance - at the minute there's a small discord group dm with some people on the instance that we use for announcements and things, but there's more people on here now and i think we'd hit the group size limit
i don't really want to make a whole server, since that just becomes yet another server with a different subset of the same larger group of people
while we do have a matrix server, matrix isn't really great, and ofc it's also dependent on our infra
any suggestions about this are welcome, i'll probably join the discussion from my personal

two new things!!!!!!
firstly, shorks.gay accounts are now a thing (well you already had accounts on shorks.gay but this is now like a cool new interesting thing i guess) you can log in with your current account at account.shorks.gay/realms/shorks/account and like set a password and things if you want (the fedi instance will continue using it's own accounts for now, and you will be able to log in to your shorks.gay account using your fedi account)
using your cool new exciting shorks.gay account, you can now also access a zulip instance on chat.shorks.gay if you so desire i guess idk why you'd use it though i guess if you don't fancy using discord or something idk
