You're absolutely right – this actually *isn't* a place of honor.
* I thought esteemed deeds were commemorated here, but that was wrong.
* The message wasn't about treasure, it was about danger. That's on me.
* I won't sugarcoat it – the danger is still present, and now it's in your body.

Why did I read so much Chinese history in 2025?

it's on x. it's on bluesky. it's literally on instagram bridged with the fediverse. it's crossposted to the IPFS. you can torrent it. it's mirrored on adamchalmers.com. it's only at adamchalmers.com. it's on a decentralized HTTP server routable via adamchalmers.com. go to adamchalmers.com.
if I could go back in time and give myself advice when I was a fresh grad working his first real programming job, it'd be: stop eating spiders.
Rust friends in Los Angeles, come to the Rust LA meetup at the Zoo office! You can meet some Zoo people, see our machine shop, and enjoy some cool Rust talks.
@ianthetechie@fosstodon.org @raiderrobert@mastodon.social Thanks, I'm also glad we met! I'll probably post more about books this year :)
I think there's a lot of different LLM code review tools, but I found Graphite to be very low-noise -- it gave clear, easy to understand suggestions, and it almost never gave any false positives.
Tomorrow is austinsystems.org big December meetup! We're doing lightning talks (strict 10 minute limit) and we'll have pizza and beer. Hope to see y'all there!
rvx installs and runs Rails in 8 seconds, vs. gem exec rails in 18 seconds
I built out the rv tool commands (rv tool install/run/list and rvx), which taught me a lot about RubyGems specifically, but also how package managers work. Now I know the API for querying/downloading package versions, resolving dependencies via PubGrub, how to safely cache dependencies, etc etc.
This was fun both for its own sake (pure curiosity -- I've never actually used Ruby) but also because KCL (the CAD language I'm building at work) will need a package manager soon. Now I understand both RubyGems and Cargo, hopefully KCL's package manager will be smoother to write someday :)
my wife: "The doctor said I can do this."
me: "Which doctor?"
my wife: "Me."
We had a great https://austinsystems.org last night! Joey set up a tiny Cloudflare network to show us how to program NICs. And Sean demoed audio effects in Python (the math behind reverb, vocal harmony, autotune etc).
Next month we're doing lightning talks (10 mins or less). Perfect for showing off a cool project, a ridiculous hack, a cursed bug, or anything really. All details are at https://austinsystems.org. You can join our mailing list or Discord too.
Everybody please shut the hell up and listen: there's a 20th anniversary edition of Confessions on a Dance Floor, and it mixes all the songs together into one non-stop mix.

rv 0.5.1 is out! Download it on Homebrew or at this link: https://github.com/spinel-coop/rv/releases/tag/v0.5.1
We now support musl thanks to Eric Case, and fixed a performance regression thanks to David Rodríguez. So now setup-rv GitHub Action should be just as fast as setup-ruby!
I think this is the fastest way to run a Ruby project. Would love to be proven wrong if someone knows a better way.
Reminder: Austin Systems will meet Dec 17! It'll be our end-of-year holiday party, we'll be doing lightning talks (strict 10 minute time limit) and have some beers etc there. Sign up at austinsystems.org!
Austin Systems is tonight! Details at austinsystems.org. Come give or listen to a lightning talk!
Austin Systems is meeting again on Wednesday night! See austinsystems.org for details. We're doing lightning talks, so prepare to speak or listen to a bunch of interesting 10 minute talks!
