i know there is some very well-cooked software for ipads that people put a lot of time into but a lot of things fundamentally do not want to be funneled through the model of an 'app' and every time i tried using my ipad mini to do something i'd be able to do seamlessly on a laptop, there was something. math homework site 99% usable except I straight up couldn't answer certain questions because tap events weren't 1:1 with click events in the browser. port of photoshop that was downright impressive and genuinely exciting until trying to edit a file on my nas turned out to seriously disagree with the cloud storage model the app expected. editing my resume in affinity designer (a native app!) on a trip when i seriously needed it to work and getting bogged down fussing with peripherals and inputs (i'd brought a mouse and keyboard) and being stuck using stock fonts because i'm not installing a damn app to install a font (app installs are load bearing!! you're telling me i have to execute someone's code, vet their eula, etc just to do a normal thing!) and then dealing w janky ipad file management again once i wanted it to be a pdf. and all of these things happen under the shadow of "if you try to multitask the app might get killed by the OS, and it might not save your file correctly (happened w photoshop), and if it does it won't be the file system one you were working on so now you have multiple working copies to think about & are mentally balancing two extremely different file management paradigms
