:konata_hype: Initial "day one" impressions/notes of Hololive Dreams, from a long-time casual PJSK player :MikuWavingPJSK:
- Region lock is "soft"
- Runs on Xiaomi POCO M5 (6 GB)
Mostly smooth 90 fps (screen's refresh rate) in the rhythm game- Sometimes lags badly for the first few seconds, breaking FC (bug?)
- 30-ish fps with dips in 3D "overworld" (cap is separate from rhythm game)
- Phone heats up considerably, comparable to mobile Warframe, more than PJSK
- Song selection screen is the most laggy part of the game for me (???)
- Rhythm game settings are very extensive, lots of options there
Speed settings seem to match PJSK, 10.8 at 90 Hz feels the same to me- Continue after death is paid (eww :btr_seika_bruh:)
- Charts are fun, slight difference from PJSK in mapping style can be felt
- 10 F2P stamina regens in 7.5 hrs (1 each 45 min)
Obviously all of that is surface level. I'm still unlocking stuff a few hours in. But overall I'm enjoying the game. Chibis are cute. Indifferent to the RPG side of it for now.
About gacha - if I'm reading it right, gachas spark at 20 10x pulls. With each 10x being 2.5k crystals, it seems 50k is the amount to have before pulling on a gacha? We'll see, I'm yet to look up if there are more mechanics. General advice of "don't fall for FOMO" stands, along with prioritizing health over everything. Carpal tunnel and RSI are no fun, so if you start to feel pain in your fingers - stop. :MikuHeartChibi:

or Fedora KDE on Athlon X4 950, Radeon HD 5670 (512 MB) and 8 GB of RAM
TLDR - it's doableIt did require some setup and tinkering, but in the end I can draw, browse the web, and perform regular tasks just fine. Limiting factor is the old GPU, a comfortable minimum is probably something like RX 550.
DrawingWacom Intuos S (wired) works out of the box. I specifically waited for KDE to implement a proper settings page before switching to Linux, so mapping it to the screen was no issue. Outside of drawing applications the stylus support can be spotty, resulting in some bugs, but none of them is a deal breaker. The most irritating one, where Plasma's window previews and tooltips don't go away, can be "fixed" with a band-aid of disabling "panels and widget tooltips" globally.
Krita fulfills all the needs I have of a drawing program, I've been using it for ages. And on Linux, as a bonus, .kra files have thumbnails and can be opened in a viewer of your choice just like the regular images!
HardwareSuch an old GPU is barely supported. The cooling fan only has two states: Idle and Jet Engine, so most of the time I have frequencies locked down to 157 MHz core and 300 MHz memory via CoreCtrl. That way it doesn't try to take off each time I move a window... at the expense of hardware acceleration in browsers. Oh well. I also tried to get GTX 650 working, but the proprietary drivers for it don't seem to support Wayland.
The CPU is sufficient for my tasks. Unfortunately there are no GUI frequency controls, so if I want it to run cooler, I have to manually lower p-state using the cpupower command after each boot, since it requires sudo password.
8 GB of RAM is enough. After disabling Baloo file indexing and removing Akonadi & PIM suite, the system after a cold boot takes ~1.6 GB.
Automounting of the secondary NTFS HDD via GUI didn't work until I modified some system files following the instructions of a KDE dev on reddit... which are by now deleted.
GamesVNs made on Ren'Py do work, no surprise here.
Holocure works via Steam's Proton layer, albeit with some performance losses and minor glitches.
Warframe doesn't work. If anything, the fact that it was able to run at all on this PC under Win10 is a testament to DE's insane engine optimization efforts.
Software replacements and quirksNo hearing aid/protection options in Plasma by default. Solved by installing Easy Effects to have a customizable system-wide compressor and limiter.
Switched Firefox and VLC to Flatpak versions to avoid issues with missing codecs.
Fooyin as a replacement of Foobar2000 for local audio player.
Friture for rolling audio spectrogram that is missing from Fooyin. An upgrade, since it works for any audio source!
Oh, so you can actually make Firefox's Picture-in-Picture pop-up windows to be on top of the others by default in KDE Plasma... :cirno_huh:
- Open a video, pop it into picture-in-picture mode, right click on it to open the context menu (or press Alt+F3 while it is in focus), and go to More Actions -> Configure Special Window Settings...
- Then click + Add Property... and pick Window title. Change the drop-down from Unimportant to Exact match, make sure the value is Picture-in-Picture.
- Click + Add Property... again and pick Keep above other windows (use search bar if needed). Make sure the drop-down is on Apply initially and change the value to Yes.
- Apply and enjoy the convenience! :cirno_bliss:
The words
...are better than chocolate.
Wanted to draw something wholesome for Valentine's Day this year. :TamakoLove: I can't tell if I managed to capture the idea, but hopefully the context gives enough clues to compensate for my lack of practice in drawing scenes of characters interacting. :btr_bocchi_trash_lurk:
:MikuHeartChibi: A new song by Asyu (aka 4syu/阿修). :konata_hype: Catchy melody, beautiful MV in a distinct style, and well thought out fun lyrics with EN/JP/ES subtitles available.
最高のMVの作りかた / How to make the perfect MV feat. 初音ミク
As a bonus - two of their other songs that sit at the criminally low view counts. Both are masterfully crafted and capable of bringing listeners to tears, as they are pretty... depressing to say the least. CW for self-harm and loss respectively, but come on, it's Vocaloid music, always expect that.
また来週 / To Be Continued feat. 初音ミク
I've finally read the second volume of Kakekoi (Love Unseen Beneath the Radiant Night Sky by Nanigashi Shima), and it was everything I hoped it to be, and then some. It complements the first volume beautifully, it's sweet, it's surprisingly heartwarming, and it made me shed some tears just like the first book.
:konata_cry: Illustrations made by raemz are as always great to look at and accompany the story nicely. The LN is on a the shorter side, so I was able to binge it in one evening, but I can't bring myself to complain about that. Not when the quality is so high.
There's one thing that struck me the most that I'd like to highlight. About halfway into the novel I realized just how fitting the medium of a book is for this story. Having to rely on words to get a scene layout might be a given for a reader normally, but when a story tackles the topic of blindness it becomes a uniquely immersive perspective.
Though, weirdly, there's one page where the text is embedded into an image. A baffling choice in terms of accessibility all things considered. An oversight unique to the digital version?
Regardless, I can confidently recommend both volumes to those who'd like to read some romance and don't mind their emotional strings being pulled. :konata_goodjob: :TamakoLove:
Music share post, yay!~ :MikuHeartChibi: So, what do we have this time?
An incredibly beautiful song from sound drama Otonone(オトノネ。) I came across a good number of years ago, featuring Aya Uchida(内田彩) and Hanae Natsuki(花江夏樹). It appears that the project was time-limited; even the website is long gone, so everything that's officially left is this YT channel. There are also a couple of tracks in the open on YT uploaded by others (and probably a full drama in the usual places), but I guess if one wants to listen to it legally they'd have to find a second-hand disc offerings at this point.
