I heard what a screenreader does with my username... so I thought for anybody who is curious about my Gaelic pronounciation here's my username in genuine Scottish Gaelic with Italian Accent.
Uilebheist means monster, so I'm also adding a common use of the word: Uilebheist Loch Nis, the Loch Ness Monster.
Uilebheist 🏳️🌈
mastodon 4.6.9Not using this instance since it has been downgraded to that mastodon 4.2.0 abomination.
It is obviously the result of Zuckenberg demanding (in the secret meetings with the mastodon developers) to join facebook's war against accessibility.
What an unusable piece of shit.

TIL
I was reading about the Burroughs MCP operating system, as one does, and noticed the bit about being able to open a non-existing file for reading. This would cause the process to block until the file became available by whatever means (operator or user copying another file to that location, or redirecting the program to read a different file, etc).
Well...
1/2 have patience, I only have 500 characters.
Has anybody ever managed to get amazon customer services (as they misleadingly call themselves) to actually do anything to fix their abysmal accessibility?
I contacted them, and they retaliated by having the following appear for *every* attempt to access the site:
There appears to be a new escape: 1.-94.-2.2 (yes, the version numbers get better with each new one)
In addition to implementing the roadworks/diversions and improving compatibility with the other compiler (if one asks for that) there is a complete rewrite of the Interpreter, and lots of other random changes.

So I was thinking (dangerous, I know).
I've seen people buying a new top of the range laptop to run a spreadsheet to add up their dividends (the old one worked just fine, and didn't need replacing, of course). And then pay more money to accountants to make sure this is made to look like a necessary work expense and therefore tax-deductable.
And then commenting in glee: "At least I'm not giving that money to the government"
