yes, but it’s systematically undervalued because stupid people don’t understand how powerful soft skills are and think all that matter is hard skills. but statistically most liberal art grads do very well later in life, even if they don’t make as much starting out.

Do you remember the social media panic over 'man spreading' or whatever? This whole thesis that men sit with their legs spread in public spaces to specifically deny women a place to sit? It was so wild. And everyone ate it up. And if you pointed out how many women dump their bags on seats and take up 2-3 extra seats... you were a misogynist attacking hard working women who were just trying to bring their shopping home. It can't just be that people who take up extra space are the jerks.

it's not community spaces dude. it's that going out was CHEAP. i could go out in 2006 with my friends on a friday night for $20. hell 10 years ago i could go out for $50 or so. now going out on a friday night costs you closer to $200. that's not possible for a college kid, unless that college kid has mommy and daddy's credit card. the COL basically means unless you have lots of money, you can't ever go out anymore. a fucking movie ticket is 20-25 dollars now. I used to see movies for 3-5 bucks when I was young. the value of the dollar has collapsed.

Driving everywhere and not walking makes you obese. Using AI and never using your brain makes you stupid. For people who are used to driving everywhere, and people who use AI all the time, they think walking/thinking is an impossible task that's only done by superhumans. I mean, I'm not a teacher, but I've seen a massive decline in people's basic cognitive abilities and social skills the past 5 years in particular. I used to be able to get along and have a conversation with a relative stranger for alike an hour or two. Now they check out after 10 minutes and can't seem to have a stained conversation about anything without rapidly switching topics, or just flying into an ignorance rage/rant about something they clearly know nothing about. I've also seen a massive uptick in straight up hostility toward me for reading paper books and using paper and pen... the thing that is massively increased is people's confidence that they are correct no matter what and there isn't anything they don't know, and if there is, it's stupid and not worth learning. I've seen this attitude in online spaces and in real life conversations. A massive difference to like 10 years ago when that attitude was far less frequent and people were far more curious and open to new information. I used to volunteer a lot, and I quit because it became so awful to deal with ignorant and aggressive people, whereas previously people were far more amendable and grateful. I miss people being able to rant about things they did know about and able to acknowledge the limits of their knowledge. AI is basically next gen social media in that all it does is bias-confirm people's ignorance and tell them what geniuses they are and they get addicted to that cognitive junk food and think good food tastes disgusting.

you don't buy them at a shop. you buy them on fb marketplace from someone's garage sale. then you bring it to a shop and you find out it needs 300+ work of work because it's been rusting away for 2-3 decades. cheap bikes only make sense if you have the skills to DIY it yourself.

refurbishing an old bike is like 8-10 hours of work. at 50 dollars an hour that's 400-500 in cost of labor alone. parts will easily add another 200-300. it is not economically feasible to refurb old bikes for sale. it's typically only done as charity work, or DIY project. a new bike takes like an hour or two to assemble, and comes with all the parts. even dumpster tier used bikes are usually sold at 200-400 dollar range at bike shops, and have very little profit unless they came in in pristine condition and just need a lube. also they are far less safe and reliable than a new bike because you're using decades old technology. 70/80s bikes are deathtraps with horrible tires, horrible brakes, and very unreliable shifting. things dramatically improved in the late 90s and 2000s.

No, you have that completely backwards. Modern bikes are far more relaxed. those old bikes have incredibly steep and short angles that are horrible for causal riding. they have like 72 degree head angles, which is the same you'd see on a modern criterium bike. most hybrid bikes have like 68 degree angles, and are the handlebars are a lot higher. even most new gravel/road bikes are slacker and more upright than those old 90s mtbs. a lot of new cyclists buy allroad or gravel bikes now because they are comfortable and perfect for everyday riding and have all the mounts for attaching bags. the only way you back an old ATB relaxed is by buying a crazy riser stem and riser bars, and then under-sizing the frame. which is precisely what ever IG retro 90s bike build does, and why they cost like $200 in cockpit parts alone to get that effect.

What pragmatically can anyone do? Am I suppose to stalk my female friends 24/7 like a vigilante to prevent them from being assaulted? Maybe put a webcam in their bedroom and watch every sexual encounter they have to make sure they aren't assaulted? At that point I am the sex criminal. The very premise that other people are responsible for someone else's crimes is totally absurd. We don't do this with say... bank robberies. Most bank robberies are done by men, and yet I don't hear how it's every man's job to stop bank robberies from every happening. The people who are supposed to stop that are security guards and police. Are we supposed to have some sort of anti-SA police force that goes around policing every social interaction men and women have in public? There are countries that do have that very thing...

Yeah, but it's worse than that. Some people don't even know they were raped. Some people, think you not raping them is worse than raping them. For some being enthusiastic consent happens at the moment of the act, but then is revoked retroactively due to guilt and shame. Rape and SA don't really have very clear cut and obvious cases, esp from the victim or the perpetuator's POV. It's easy to judge it from an external POV, naturally. But it's VERY gray. I have had so many sexual encounters that were so messy, including encounters where there was no sex, and the other party accused me SA for not raping them, because in their twisted mentality, my lack of overbearing sexual desire was somehow insulting and painful for them. Literally, I had a woman over, she was falling over drunk, so I put her to sleep on my couch, and the next morning she sent me a flurry of texts about how I had SA her and violated her by not sleeping with her and she was going to post my info all over the internet and make sure I was punished for being a good person because how DARE I not take advantage of her what is wrong with me, I must be gay, etc. I didn't have sex with her because she barely conscious and it would be rape. And yet, her mind, I was still an evil-doing bad guy because it hurt her feelings for me to not rape her while she was semi-conscious. I can't say for certain, but I suspect his woman was clearly a previous victim of sexual abuse. I've also had similar encounters with women in the case of physical abuse, where the encounter was "be a man and hit me to prove to me you care." Peoples mentalities around sex are not cut and dry. They are incredibly messy and fraught. Lots of people pressure other people into sex, or feel compelled to have sex because they know the relationship can't progress or be secured without it. When I first started dating, I quickly learned that most women expected me to be sexually aggressive ASAP and if I asking them for sex, I wasn't interested. So had to learn to fake an interest just so I had more opportunity to continue to see them. Lots of dates think I am a pussy if I don't try to force myself on them. I've also had so many other encounters where people lectured me on safe sex, consent, etc. but then when we were in the sexual act, they demanded I sleep with them without a condom, and then retroactively decided that doing so was wrong/bad. Or, that I was a pussy for wanting to use a condom. Some of those encounters also result in physical/sexual assault on myself by the woman. I've also had horrible sexual encounters that I hated, where the other party thought it was AMAZING and vice versa. I mean really, there is no 'solution' unless you're going to have some neutral third party observing all sexual relations between people. People themselves are not capable of that. They have zero objectivity about themselves the vast majority of the time and they their narrative in the heat of the moment is VERY different than it is before or after that moment. You can be VERY clear ahead of time about what you want and your boundaries... but that in no way means the other person cares or listens or they don't change those desires/boundaries during the act. Not to mention that some people are very bitter when faced with rejection and will retroactively change the entire relationship's story post-breakup. During the relationship you are charming and wonderful and compassionate, but post-breakup you're a manipulative evil person who seduced and took advantage of them... What is the solution to any of that? You require some sort of psychological assessment or licensing before you are allowed to give consent? I don't think there is any 'solution.' I just think shitty people are shitty and it has nothing to do with culture. And shitty people will victimize others and make themselves out to be the victims, because yes, like you said, they are 'good people' and they can never do anything wrong. They are sex-positive and open minded and perfect! They could never assault anyone!

rental costs at the airport are 200-300% of those at non-airport rental locations. you dont' rent cars, clearly. you are just making up nonsense. i rented cars for years before i gave up and bought a car, because owning a car was CHEAPER than renting one 2-3 times a month and dropping like $150-200 on every rental. car renting is a PITA process. 1/3 of the time you don't even get the car you booked, you get a 'similar model'. you also need to pay for insurance would more than doubles the rental cost.

No, it's just your typical double standard shit. If I asked the that, I'd be an asshole sexist pig. If they asked me that, they are just trying to figure out if I am a womanizer or 'inexperienced'. When they do it it's a 'good thing', when I do it, it's 'bad'. And nobody is ever happy with the answer unless your number is basically the same as theirs. If your number is significantly different, than you are 'judging them'. Because what they are really asking, on a deeper level, is you to validate them and their life choices. It's not any different with money either. You have to answer them with the number in their head they have pre-determined is 'correct' or you are not worthy of them, or you are going to steal/abuse them. This is regardless of their own financial status. I make a great salary and am happy with money. But I meet women who think I am going to to steal their money and force them to pay all my bills if I make like 10K less than they do, which is a trivial amount to both of us. But this 'fear' is almost always a projection of her desire to be the person who steals the money and has their bills paid for them, or some deep belief that any man who can't pay her bills for her is not a 'real man'. I meet so many women I am at the same financial level as who tell me I am too poor to date them... it's just hilarious to me at this point. They basically have to come up with a conspiracy theory to justify their greed that a man must make 2-3x their income to be 'good'. And in my dating bracket, that means a guy has to make like 500K salary, which is a top .5% salary. Hence the refrain 'there are no good men'. All the men who are moderate successful making 100-200K are 'losers' who are just going to financial use and abuse her, or something.

economic growth isn't necessarily material growth. there is no material limit on how much code I can write. or the books i can sell digitally. the economy can grow with less resource use, and really it has compared to history. agriculture is far less resource intensive than it used to be due to improvements and far more economically productive. that's what progress is and why productivity continues to skyrocket. we can do way more with far less.

all of these anarchist flavors are a form of relativism where all that matters is people’s individual feelings. it’s a form of solipsism when you start asking questions about it. and when you draw it out, it inevitable leads to consequences that totally contradict it’s tenants. but anarchists… don’t do that… they just feel the feelings, man. anarchism is great if you never think, but some flavors of it regard thinking as an undue burden foist upon people by a unjust society…. hence why you are getting these absurd answer about how gravity is unjust and cruel. I suppose they also regard having to eat/drink/breathe as injustices that ‘society’ forces upon us.

Also the linux fetishism on this site is super weird. I’m an IT professional. I use Linux. I don’t idealize it however. It’s just another OS among many.
