Wine has reversed engineered so much and it works great, but sometimes you may need to set several config values to something for a particular app to work right. I wouldn’t say that Quake is more slow-paced, for me it was even more dynamic, especially if you start using rocket jumps etc. In my opinion, the visuals were not, as you put it, “boooring”. I liked the atmosphere and I remember there being more colors than just brown ;) But it’s true that in general it has a rather gloomy palette. Most Ubuntu support applies to Ubuntu based distros, like pop os, which I also would recommend personally. Distro choice both matters and doesn’t, with the caveat that it mostly matters what it’s based on. Ubuntu based is going to give you all the easiest software support.
