The Dodologist
Fighting vitalism since 1662. Extinction is no reason not to party.
This feels very, very, very relevant.
"In literary criticism, an idiot plot is one which is "kept in motion solely by virtue of the fact that everybody involved is an idiot", and where the story would quickly end, or possibly not even happen, if this were not the case."
As a pencil user, I find Moleskine notebooks to work well. But as a human being, I'm happy to announce that my next, still plastic wrapped notebook is a Leuctturm.

There is a certain irony to Dawkins waxing lyrically about his imaginary friend.
The great auk is sometimes spoken of as the dodo of the north. As The Dodologist, I would like to point out that that is bullshit.
The dodo went extinct from being super well evolved for a situation that suddenly changed. Laying one egg once in a rare while, and then simply leaving it for most of the time, might be a good strategy when you are the biggest thing on a an island without predators.
It turns bad fast when people come along and bring pigs that they let roam free. Pigs like eggs. Bye bye dodo.
The great auk on the other hand, was simply hunted to extinction. Because people are greedy and stupid and often quite shit, to be honest.
They were both cool though. But now sadly dead cool.
Richard Dawkins goes down the "AI is my friend" rabbit hole. It is sad. And hilarious. And absurd, in a "the stripper really likes me" kind of way.
I would almost feel sorry for him, if he wasn't, you know ... him.
But the really, REALLY scary thing, is the thought of a novel written by Dawkins.
The new Kneecap album is finally here, and the flac is on a phone near me. It will be the soundtrack of the weekend, methinks. But topping Fine Art ought to be impossible.
So I made a PDF photo zine. And finally got around to write a text I’ve been thinking about for years. It goes to the heart of why I take the photos I do.
Tiken Jah Fakoly, the king of Ivorian reggae, possibly of all Francophone reggae, has released a new album. Live, with Chorales Abidjan and Chorales Troyes.
After the masterpiece Braquage de Pouvoir, my favourite reggae album of 2022, I haven’t quite clicked with his releases. Whereas Braquage is raw and brutal, his more recent stuff has seemed rather tame.
So I had few expectations for this album. But though it is a very different beast from Braquage, I really like this. Hardly a masterpiece, but the choir adds a pathos that suits the music of a true master.
I’m even willing to forgive the ever present Africain à Paris, his cover of Sting’s Englishman in New York.
Recommended. (But check out Braquage first. It’s a kick to the face. In the best way possible.)
It's that time of the year, when I'm constantly reminded how annoying I find Patti Smith.
Current soundtrack. Another one of those artists that doesn’t quite sound like anyone else. At times not ever herself.
And though others have done similar things later, this was 1981.
Cool icon, terrible person. Good riddance.
There are collaborations. And duets. And then there is Hempress Sativa dueting with Tiken Jah Fakoly. The Jamaican Queen and the Ivorian King.
In my little corner of the internet, this is the shock of the day. Storror announced this on their Instagram this morning, and it seems like the amount of material Callum Powell has pleaded guilty to creating is quite staggering.
I’m unsure how Storror can go on after this. Of course the other members are not to blame in any way, but Callum is such an integral part of the team, and watching old videos with him in them – and we are talking hundreds upon hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of video here – will never be the same again.
The Storror brand is to a large extent about the people, their cooperation, friendship and interaction. And the lens the world will see that through, has fundamentally changed. The brand in itself is tarnished, even if the remaining members have done nothing wrong.
It is especially sad for his brother, whose comeback after really bad injuries has been one of the great aspects of the latest year.
I might be wrong. They are masters at social media. They might find a way to go on. They have twice my countries population following them on YouTube, after all.
But as a fan, I struggle to see the way out of this.
