Hey friends 👋

I'm the creator of Signal Update Info, and I have been running this account solo for the past three years. Today, I have some exciting news to share!

After discussing with the lovely folks over at @aboutsignal@mastodon.social, I've decided to join their team and merge SUI into those efforts!

AboutSignal has truly become a fantastic resource, built by a team of volunteers, and we share the same goal: to spread Signal around the world via an ad-free website, freely accessible to everyone.

#Signal for Android v8.5 release notes:

• New unified on-device (local) backups that leverage a cross-platform format and incremental media backups deduped across backup snapshots. Give it a go and let us know if you run into any problems.

#Signal for Android v8.7 release notes:

• We have a new plaintext export feature that lets you export all of your Signal data to disk in a mostly-human-readable format. It’s basically a plaintext json-ified version of our new local backup format. Hopefully it’s helpful for those who need it! Settings > Chats > Export chat history.

#Signal for Desktop v8.4 release notes:

• Now you can optionally add a member label to describe yourself or your role in a group chat. Set your group member label to “Referee” or “Goalie” in your local rec league soccer chat to help kick things off when new teammates join, then choose a different label with your job title in the company chat. Member labels appear next to your profile name in that group, and group admins can control whether or not they are enabled for everyone.

#Signal for Desktop v8.6 release notes:

• Now you won’t need to scroll as far to catch up on the latest messages. If several new people join a busy group chat, or you receive multiple missed calls in a row, those repeated chat events can be automatically grouped together into a compact display. Sometimes less is more, but you can easily expand and collapse these lists at any time.
