Einhards Basilica in Michelstadt for me this morning which is from the Carolingian period
It was the Day of Experimental Archaeology at the Freilichtlabor Lauresham, so I accidentally ended up listening to a talk about a probable shield found in a Hallstatt grave in Ober-Wöllstadt.
Also, Lauresham has animals doing reenactments
Lorsch today, to visit the remains of the Abbey
My first TGV of the day has arrived on time, at least
(I'm still in Germany until just before Strasbourg, but already on a French train)
Even back in the 7th century, decent butter was important
That was cutting it a bit fine - the light on the pedestrian crossing over the U-Bahn tracks only went red *as the U-Bahn started crossing*
I, of course, did notice the U-Bahn going at a fair clip and decided I didn't want to test the emergency brakes on the grounds that I had permission to cross...
Managed to walk up the hill to visit the Ronneburg as part of my ongoing Hessian history trips
There were also peonies (and irises) in the peony garden in Lorsch
Today's very important sports event - the European Tram Driver's Championship here in Frankfurt
Up on a hill looking down at Frankfurt today.
(The hill is the site of a Celtic oppidum, so there's still history stuff involved)
