Fairfax County Repair Café

☀️ Summer is here, and so is Repair Cafe! We'll be at Great Falls Library THIS SATURDAY, June 6th, from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Join us!

**No knife sharpening at this event** - we are still trying to find a volunteer for knife sharpening, but we haven't found anyone yet, so we can't promise it this time.

Good morning - I've updated our profile so it's time for another Volunteers Wanted post!

Right now we are in search of all roles (More here: https://volunteernow.volunteerfairfax.org/custom/1427/opp_details/191304 )

But in particular we would really like a knife sharpener! Do you know someone who would be willing to come out to Great Falls Library to help us with this? Please send them our way!

Knife sharpening typically runs from 10:30am to 12pm at our Cafe - if you're ready to pack up and leave at/after 12pm, you're welcome to do so. We also invite our volunteers to come early, at 10am, to have time to set up before doors open, but that's not a requirement.

Knife sharpening is our most popular service at Repair Cafes. We've had volunteers who have worked on machines with sanding belts, as well as ones that have worked with whetstones - we're not picky, if it works for you, it works for us.

Please boost! 🔃 ✅

Our May Repair Cafe is coming up! Come visit us at the Lorton Library. Doors open at 10:30, and we close to new repairs at 12:30pm. Knife sharpening closes at 12:00pm to allow time for cleanup. We'd love to see you there!

Not sure what to bring? Here's some things we've diagnosed and repaired before:

- Clothing
- Household decor
- Lighting fixtures
- Cookware
- Toys
- Jewelry

and many more!

** We are still looking for volunteers to make this event possible! **

Current needs include at least one of every role: Greeters, Childcare, Knife Sharpeners, Repair Experts, and even Repair Experts-in-Training. Check out the roles here: https://volunteernow.volunteerfairfax.org/custom/1427/opp_details/191239 If you don't want to make an account, you can DM this account, or email at anicski@proton.me to notify us of your interest. If you know someone who may be looking for volunteer opportunities, please send them our way!

Tomorrow we'll be bringing the repair groove to Lorton Library!

If we're not in your area but you still want to get in the spirit, consider checking out your local FCPL Fix-It Clinic: https://research.fairfaxcounty.gov/c.php?g=1106963&p=10481818

Volunteers Needed: Saturday, May 9th, 2026 10am-1pm @ Lorton Library

We are in need of Greeters, Childcare volunteers, Repairers, and Knife Sharpeners for our event this weekend.

Do you sharpen knives at home?

Do you fix things - software, hardware, textiles, jewelry, anything - at home, or for friends?

If so - great! We'd love to work with you. But even if you don't, we would *still* love to work with you. Greeters are our most essential role, enabling the whole event to run smoothly, and being a greeter requires 0 repair background.

We have blurbs about these roles here: https://volunteernow.volunteerfairfax.org/custom/1427/opp_details/191239
But if logging in is a barrier, you don't need to sign up there. You can also DM this account, or email me at anicski@proton.me

If you have questions, let me know! Please boost if you know people in the region. 🔃 ✅
