Gröna Bandet with Packraft
Summer 2025 and 2026: Hike and paddle Gröna Bandet Etapp.
Planning, thoughts, and travel updates.
Will mostly post in English, but might also be some Swedish here and there.
Day 16, Abisko is the end this year
Woke up and my foot hadn't gotten better, so I decided to head home sooner rather than later. With no noticeable improvement, it'd probably be weeks before I could hike on it. Likely cause? Too many hard heel impacts as I was rushing along the uneven and hard rocky trail.
Booked a train for the afternoon and checked out one night early.
Abisko Guesthouse was nice, if a bit weird. And less than half the price of STF Abisko.
Next year I'll finally finish!
Day 1, 13 km hiking, 4 km packrafting
Started at the rest stop on road 95 where I left off last year. It was very nice to start above the tree line, even if the trail dipped down into the birches around Jurun. Late in the afternoon I paddled along the beach of Ikesjaure in unnecessarily exciting waves, it was very cold to pack the raft up when I was wet. Hiked a little bit further and tented next to the Ikesjaure rest hut.
Day 14, Miesákjárvi to Abisko Turist: 22 km hiking and 3 km packrafting
A pleasant morning followed ny a slow trudge up to the trail. Once on the trail I started going faster, and by the time I was in Gárddenvággi I was hurrying along with a pressing need for an outhouse.
My legs were pretty tired one I got to the Abiskojaure huts, and my left foot hurt. But I thought that'd be fine after a lunch and an hour packrafting. It wasn't. Slow hike down to Abisko, where I had a very nice dinner.
Day 3: A bit after Bierre to Pieskehaure cabin, 4 km hiking and 14 km packrafting
A short but still annoying hike along the sparsely marked and overgrown trail, I made my way to a stream where I could put in a bit upstream from the lake.
After I got out on the lake proper after a couple of km in a bay, I discovered fierce headwinds and stopped for lunch, preparing to walk to the next corner of the lake. But the wind lessened and I could paddle on, hugging the shore.
