Europe’s largest academic conference. 20,000+ participants. Hundreds of sessions every day. And yet, somehow, everything runs remarkably smoothly. #EGU26 truly is an event unlike any other.
We were honoured to present the AQUANAVI project at the conference this year, which brings together @LeibnizIGB@wisskomm.social, @wikidata@wikis.world, and Open Knowledge Maps.
A big thank you to all participants, the session conveners, and @copernicus_org@mastodon.social for organising such an impressive event at this scale.
🎉 Over 5 million maps created on Open Knowledge Maps!
From classrooms and labs to libraries and living rooms, our visualisations are helping people everywhere explore research in new and inspiring ways. 🌍💡
We couldn’t have reached this milestone without you. Thank you for using, promoting, and supporting Open Knowledge Maps. Your dedication inspires us every day! ❤️
Let’s keep building a world where AI-driven knowledge discovery is open to all.🎈
📈 Better data, better discovery
Our PubMed integration now uses Crossref citations for more accurate research overviews.
Citations determine the scale of both research areas and documents on our PubMed maps.

Three cheers for our community! 🎉
This week we are celebrating a milestone: 3 million knowledge maps! Exponential growth means a new knowledge map is created every 10 seconds.
We would like to say a huge thanks to all our mappers. Here’s to the next 3 million! 🎈

🤝 Responsible research assessment is key to advancing open science. At Open Knowledge Maps, we believe that assessment should be open, transparent, and recognise the full diversity of research contributions.
That’s why we’ve joined CoARA (@CoARAssessment@mastodon.social) - to help foster practices that go beyond traditional metrics and support a more inclusive and equitable research system 🌍
We're excited to be part of this international movement for change! ✨
❓Do you know what Europe’s fifth freedom is?
❗The free movement of research, innovation & knowledge.
The route towards this freedom was at the heart of the ERA Symposium 2025, which featured a keynote from European Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva and speeches from Austrian Ministers Eva-Maria Holzleitner and Peter Hanke.
We were honoured to present Open Knowledge Maps at this high-level event, and we're excited to help advance a more open and connected European Research Area.
We were delighted to welcome Stefan Hanslik of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Women, Science and Research (BMFWF) to the Open Knowledge Maps office! 🌍📍
We presented the scale and impact of our service, our integration with the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), and how we can contribute to the service layer of federated open research data infrastructures as a non-profit.
Thanks for the great exchange - we look forward to continuing the conversation! 🚀
As summer draws to a close, we celebrate new connections 🌻
We warmly welcome BOKU University as a supporting member! BOKU University is the 10th Austrian institution to pledge their support to Open Knowledge Maps.
