Preparing for the future of #microbiome and #microbiology data management!
Last week, many members of the #NFDI4Microbiota consortium came together to kick off preparations for the next funding phase. Over two half-days, we engaged in fruitful discussions, shared ideas, and aligned our plans for the future
Together, we continue working towards our mission: Making Microbiology Data FAIR and Open.
The 18th Seeon Conference, organized by the DGHM group Microbiota, Probiotics and Host, provided a great opportunity to discuss research data management approaches for sensitive metadata with our community.
We explored exciting topics ranging from benchmarking and ancient pathogens to the gut and oral #microbiome and came away with many new insights.
Thank you to everyone for the inspiring discussions—we're already looking forward to next year!

As part of the #analytica conference, the topic of Research Data Management (RDM) was once again in the spotlight.
In the session “Use Cases in Data Science,” our speaker Konrad Förstner introduced the #NFDI framework. Using #nfdi4microbiota as an example, he demonstrated that effective #rdm is the backbone of modern, data-driven science.
We are excited to announce the start of the third round of challenges of the Initiative for the Critical Assessment of Metagenome Interpretation (CAMI).
CAMI III evaluates methods for metagenome assembly, genome binning, taxonomic binning, and taxonomic profiling.
Benchmark your #metagenome methods on the new Longitudinal Human Gut dataset: https://cami-challenge.org/cami-iii-challenges
Additional challenge datasets will be released throughout the challenge period.
We look forward to your submissions!
Boosting Biodata Bootcamp 2026 – Late Poster Abstract Submission
Abstracts may be submitted as long as poster places remain available, and no later than 31 August 2026.
