Munich Quantum Valley

Last weekend, as part of the FORSCHA science festival, we brought quantum science to the shopping mall!

Together with PhotonLab, @LRZ_DE@mastodon.social, and @MCQST@wisskomm.social, we offered a variety of activities to learn about quantum physics and quantum technologies, ranging from building your own quantum circuit with our MQV beer coasters to exploring the interior of a cryostat for superconducting quantum computers with VR goggles to playing Quantum Tic-Tac-Toe.

In his research @tu_muenchen@wisskomm.social Felix Dusel uses abstract models that simulate the collective behavior of many individual particles for two reasons. On the one hand, he wants to get to the bottom of unusual properties of matter. On the other hand, he seeks new insights that will form important foundations for calculations on quantum computers. Read more about Felix and his enthusiasm for theoretical physics in our latest #MQVinPersona portrait!

Today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 👩‍🔬

Women continue to be underrepresented at all levels of STEM disciplines. This issue is particularly acute in quantum computing: According to the UN, fewer than 2% of applicants for jobs in the quantum sector are women.

It is important to us to recognize this gender gap and take action:
