We should indeed thank the US government for pushing the migration to BEVs and regenerative energy so much. Measures seem to be more effective than anything any government has done before. BEV sales a soaring, and here in Germany heat-pumps suddenly seem finally to be seen as the better alternative by most now, while they still had been widely disputed just a year ago. Strategy of the US seems a bit confusing to me, though. On the one hand denying climate change, on the other hand starting the biggest, most costly, and most successful initiative to make fossil fuels unattractive and push green transformation.

Where do you live? I assumed summer to be basically over on the northern hemisphere and not yet quite started on the southern one, so interesting to see where a heatwave is still/already present at end of September.

No, I don’t think this explains it in this case. Russia heavily relies on the export of fossil fuels, so they will lose a lot in the long run following the US’s surprising violent push for fostering world-wide use of green energy.

As someone whose employer blocks the installation of browser extensions, I am more than excited to hear that! Using the web sucks since that policy has been implemented a year or so ago. Integrated adblock engine would rectify that again.

You are seriously complaining that your pirated cracked game is not running on Linux? Tone it down, adding exaggerated details to your ragebait makes it unbelievable.

24hr analog watches are the real shit, though! Had a good emulated one on my phone homescreen for a long time, but unfortunately app is not supported by newer versions of Android any more... :-(

Are you talking about a watch with 24 different numbers on it?

Yes, arranged in a circle, 24 at the top, 12 at the bottom, lower part is day, upper part is night.
App also had a daylight indication shading depending on local sunrise/sunset.
Loved it!

Nope, neither a joke, nor Boomer. GenX with late GenZ and early GenAlpha kids. So no humor, just empiric observation. Just this week my GenZ son told me to my astonishment, that out of his class of 30, only 3 still have a printer at home. For my daughter in elementary school it is even worse. Mobile phones and tablets essentially have completely replaced PCs and Laptops at home. First time the kids come in contact with a text processing program is sometime during secondary school in class if they are lucky.

Then better use burgerbrained (which doesn't seem like a portmanteau to me btw), avoids possible confusion with the existing word. "Normalbürger" in German-based languages just means "average citizen" in a completely neutral way. So not what you have been going for.

Perhaps switch to a keyboard for the time being? I severely broke 3 fingers in my left hand half a year ago and was able to play Elder Scrolls games and Tux Kart surprisingly soon after the accident. Sufficient to be able to just move the flat hand left and right a bit and get the fingertips a few mm down to press a key. Being able to use a controller again took more than 2 months and wasn't even fun then (did it mostly for the therapeutic training effect).

Dream on... Motorola has continuously been moving headphone jack down to ever lower spec devices. Has been the reason I bought a used G84 half a year ago, as this has been the last Motorola with at least somewhat decent specs to support those. (On top of it, it runs LineageOS really well!). But the GrapheneOS phone will be a high-end-device, so you can probably forget about it...

I am also an engineer, so my kids have had contact with advanced IT equipment since early childhood and are quite proficient by now. :-) We also have a Chromebook with touchscreen at home, mainly so they can comfortably use some Android apps in a controlled environment (the 9 yo doesn't yet have a smartphone of her own). Chromebooks in school are not really a thing here in Germany afaik. Both kids have an account on our Linux desktop in our work/office room. This is set up with a special German DNS that provides age-group appropriate filtered hostlists ("jusprog"). To integrate that I used dnsmasq, which lets me easily modify the filters if needed. It's not perfect, as it could be easily circumvented, but we talk openly about it and I try to minimize severe restrictions, so they feel no need to tamper with it. The kids are sometimes a little annoyed when something new doesn't work directly, but know that this is the way that allows them to use the PC relative freely, so they are quite happy with the arrangement for now. We also have a Linux Laptop and a tiny Mini-PC with Linux Mint attached to the TV, both of which they are only allowed to use with some supervision. Edit: They have some games that can be used with their accounts (the usual, Luanti, Supertux, Tuxracer). The more complex Games are on a special account for which they don't have the password themselves, but have to ask for access. Older kid just got really involved in playing Oblivion, so proud! ;-)

"Weatherman" by Sub7even. But while I totally loved that song, turned out I loved the rest of their stuff, which is *totally* different just as much. So inside me there are two wolves: One wishing they had done more stuff like "Weatherman". The other one wishing they had made more stuff as on the rest of the album it was on.

l like the idea, but I suspect it often might have the opposite effect as intended. Imagine e.g. taking a quick glance at the watch to determine if you will still catch the bus - this would most likely result in you sprinting to the bus stop just to be on the safe side...

You can imagine I gave up and did not go.

Not an option for me, mandatory appointment.

But something similar happened for as with your buses, but fortunately in a good way:
The preceding ICE was even more delayed, so I was able to catch that one instead. :-)

This is solid advice, although in my case it has been a ticket without Zugbindung, as it has been for a work trip. I got reimbursed 25% one time last year, but had several trips where the delay annoyingly just stayed a few minutes below the magic 1hr mark. :-)

Yes, on second thought that should not come as a surprise. I always tend to forget that the Southern US, e.g. Texas, is on the same latitude as huge parts of Northern Africa, including regions that already are part of the Sahara desert. But each time I realize that, it catches me by surprise again…
