I've ridden all of those, delightful. You've probably heard of grasshoppers? They are the brainchild of a guy named Miguel Crawford, local adventure rides among his buddies that blossomed into bigger events, I learned a lot of those roads from him and from those grasshoppers.

Nothin' shakin' on Shakedown Street
Used to be the heart of town
Don't tell me this town ain't got no heart
You just gotta poke around

I'm envious. Some (April) day I want to ride those cobbles.

Agreed, sounds like bearings. Not much you can do, but some hubs do allow you to manually pull the driver off the hub body and inspect, if this one is one of those, and you have access to something like a rag and a clean space to take a look, you might find a foreign object in there that you can remove with your hands. Otherwise, yeah, that sounds like a rebuild when you get to civilization.

I saw one in a junkyard in Nevada, once.
