People can see who liked a toot when they go into the stats of said post.
And apparently if you like a toot you also add it to the federated timeline of your server.
However, only OP gets directly notified about your like which is what makes it feel more intimate.

For Mastodon, if you want to have access to a post in the future, I recommend using the bookmark function though.

@emopod I know that sometimes it can be necessary to see who liked a post to be able to protect yourself (e.g. via blocking) but that function is still available by clicking on the stats of the post itself.
And other than that, I also think that it's not necessary to broadcast what you like by other means than boosting.
I know my computer is ancient, but could it be that PyCharm is just incredibly load heavy? My stats are CRAP* as soon as I open it 🙈
* they're actually okay and things are still running smoothly, I'm just dramatic
I might not be able to run a desktop version of Apple Music on Linux (🥲) but I can program a starter desklet for it at least 💪🏻
