Marjan Nadim held a brilliant lecture about generalization in qual research at OsloMet today. My photo librabry is now fully stocked with methodological one-liners.

My motto for the new semester:
"There are no stupid ideas, just stupid people" - Nandor
As a productivity-obsessed academic, I needed to read this:
"[A good video game is] a delicious waste of time [...It] makes no demands other than the age-old pleasures of great story combined with the very modern possibilities of immersion. And none of it matters except the enjoyment of the doing."

Reading List:
"Person, Thing, Robot" by Robert Gunkel
"Rather than try to fit robots into the existing categories (...,) Gunkel argues for a revolutionary reformulation of the entire system, developing a new moral and legal ontology for the twenty-first century and beyond."

Weekend highlight: Not only did my three-year-old son fall asleep on my chest for the time since he was a baby -- he did so while I was laying in the couch with my Nintendo controller so close that I got to do an hour of Tears of the Kingdom 🥰

Sociological research is often criticised for providing "excuses" for people doing bad things, preventing them from being rightfully blamed and punished. This special issue looks at social scientific debates about such "exculpatory" consequences:

Nearing the end of the fall semester it's time for everyone's favorite game show: Am I burned out or simply coming down with something?
Thoroughly enjoying this book atm. Instead of your run-of-the-mill analytic-philosophical snarkiness, it's full of musings on how to become a better, more humble thinker.
Hi, I'm Lars, and I find pathological satisfaction in pen-and-paper planning
Woke up at 05:15, after a terrible nightmare in which my department head had emailed to ask if I had a full day to spare in the near future.
The ERC deadline is nearing and my life feels like season 2 of The Bear 🫠
✨ New paper in Information, Communication & Society: Multi-site domestication: taming technologies across multiple institutional settings ✨
The article proposes the concept of multi-site domestication to capture how technologies can require different "taming" processes when used across institutional settings with different and at times opposing norms, rules, values, and logics.

It's grant season (again...), and I strongly felt the need to make a meme

Meanwhile in Norway: Our Minister of Research and Higher Education stepped down after being caught for plagiarism in her 2014 master's thesis. 3 452 of its 15 794 words were directly copied from other MA theses.

Got another entry in my "CV of Failures" today, with my application for basic science funding from the Research Council of Norway getting rejected. Only 36 of 417 projects got funding, though, and only 9 of these 36 were in SSH, so it's not the end of the world.

@mmin@assemblag.es Interesting! This would actually include all forms of imaginary and parasocial interaction (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasocial_interaction). I think we're onto something!
@mmin@assemblag.es My sociology mind wants this to be a 4 x 4 table, but the missing option greet-but-not-meet seems a bit off 😢
