I'm curious where the obsession with specifically protecting honeybees in North America comes from. Things that wipe out native bee populations (there are many hundreds of species) are an ecological disaster, but honeybees are an invasive feral domesticated European animal that have actually done quite a bit of damage to native bees. In many cases the same things harm native bees and honey bees, but it doesn't make any sense to focus specifically on protecting the invasive species.
