And once you normalise appointing compromised people because they’re ‘useful’, you’re not being clever — you’re eroding the system you’re supposed to protect.
The whole “send a snake into the snake nest” idea gets diplomacy exactly backwards.
Diplomacy isn’t about matching cynicism with cynicism — it’s about leverage, credibility, and control. When you send someone in because they’re seen as compromised, you’re not gaining an edge; you’re starting from a position of weakness.
If both sides carry baggage — especially something as toxic as Epstein associations — that doesn’t create leverage. It creates mutual vulnerability.
