8 or 9 years is about right for when modern LLMs started. Do people really think LLMs just sprang into existence a few years ago with giant corporations pushing them? The tech is decades old depending on how you look at it, and even under a rather strict definition it’s pushing at least a decade.

Unfortunately that’s not really how the actual data is stored. Functionally there is no CSAM at all in its “databanks”. Once Info goes through training what comes out the other side is just a mass of goop. It’s like if you took an entire cow ran it though a meat grinder. Then demanded that you remove only the chuck from the resulting ground beef. It’s not physically possible. You can demand it’s retrained entirely from the ground up with vetted data. To produce a higher quality clean dataset. And I would agree that is what should be done. But you can’t unground the beef

Honestly at this point it feels like anyone who just wants to pass on AI is also calm enough and enough of an adult to read the documentation and get to the disclaimer naturally. While the man children who just want to screech and yell about ai this and ai that. Can fuck off and we should do everything in our power to not make their life easy. There is nuance to this whole ai problem, and those who just want to spew their vitriol are also too childish to understand the nuance and thus aren’t worth catering to.

Prompting AI for a video game plumber is most likely going to result in a Mario like entity just because it’s the most common example. That’s a poor example of what your talking about. You need someone niche and narrow that has a much smaller sample size. It would be more like asking for a generic description of one persons fursona with out naming it. And the model spitting out a almost 1:1 copy of a real preexisting art work on the fursona. Because the model only has that one picture to base things off of. Which is a real problem. It’s also the best way to tell if a model was trained on something specific. General prompts aren’t going to get you anything beyond just the fact that yes. X thing is popular enough that everyone and their grandmother creates content on it.

Man I always hear about these people who have to fix random that should not happen things. Yet I haven’t had that problem in a decade of using rolling distros. While ever time I’ve ever had a fixed release cycle distro update it implodes. What black magic fuckery is this.

It’s the truth but it also is fantastic proof why the entire concept is doa. The fact this needs explaining at all or is even a problem. Means it’s a non viable system. Even technical users aren’t going to want to have to fiddle and tinker and read documentation for base entertainment. It either works or it’s worthless. That’s the bar you have to pass for basic entertainment.

Peertube while a neat idea might be the single biggest fucking joke I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s so beyond a pipe dream that it wraps around into absurdity. To be perfectly frank a lot for the open source/federated stuff is basically a comically unuseable joke. A handful manage to get barely half way useable like lemmy because it basically just a repost dumping ground from the big social medias. Or a more modern version of a old internet format. But it’s still at best half useable. That still makes it more useable then what a lot of the corpo alternatives are. But when your only saving grace is that the other options are worse by virtue of being shit. It doesn’t make you actually good. It just makes you less worse.

Basically everything counts. Tea, soda, energy drinks, coffee. Generally speaking all these drinks are 98%+ water by volume. And hydrate exactly the same as an equal amount of water. Corn syrup based drinks are on the rougher end but still no where near close to problematic for the goal of hydration. Typically calorie intake and caffeine over dose are larger problems. But if your drinking an artificial sweetener based drink with low caffeine then you basically can straight replace water with it. Unless you have an out standing medical or health issue. Since while caffeine is a diuretic it's such a mild one that you would literally kill your self on over dose 10 times over on the fucking water in the drink it self before it actually became a problem for hydration. So it's really a moot point. You should be more worried about your teeth than your kidneys honestly. Cause as long as your drinking literally fucking anything you are getting water. But your fucking your teeth up with acids and crap. Really if your struggling with hydration it's likely cause your trying to drink your entire intake of water. You also need it from foods. Go eat some fruit and veggies. It helps more then a extra cup of water will. You need about a quarter of your fluid intake from foods daily. People almost never get enough water from food.

Well crypto fundamentally can never be that. You would have to solve that silly little problem of there's no such thing as perfectly free infinite energy generation entirely unregulated and uncontrolled by a government. So long as energy is controlled and funded by a government, all crypto will ever be is a clever hand wave of a problem by removing itself one step and claiming that problem doesn't exist.

Its government controlled regardless. Unless you have entirely free, unregulated, sovereign free energy, electrical distribution and internet infrastructure. Crypto is just as reliant and controls by governments as regular assets. Its the same amount of steps removed as any "finite" item. But relies even more on the government then say gold. Because it's required to convert it to a normal currency to spend it or obtain it. It also intrinsically ties it self to government controlled currency. Which in turn if a government really wanted the us or China for example could just start buying all of it with their control over the currency that the crypto requires to exist to have value. Once they control the majority of it they just own it functionally.

To be perfectly blunt, no not every hurdle is defeatable. To even consider that to be true is fucking retarded. There is a point where your option is to deal with it or use something else. Modifications can be made illegal, hardware can be made unobtainable legally outside of vendor contracts, real time motion data to insurance can be mandated, etc. Even if you go out of your way to bypass everything you can The simple fact is, at some point you WILL be pulled over or get into an accident. And at that point if the powers that be decide what you did breaks a law then your still fucked. Or that you broke your insurance contract with your modifications. Just because you can do something doesnt mean you can get away with it if caught. And everyone's caught at some point. You either end up in jail or uninsurable and monetarily fucked.

Claiming degen is Nazi speach is just yet another form of algospeak. It's self censorship. Fuck anyone who tries to curate the speach of another just because a company dislikes it or a group you disagree with. The only person who can choose what is or is not acceptable speech is yourself. If you allow others to control everything you say you might as well rip out your tongue and suckle on a hot fireplace poker cuz your mouth sure ain't worth f****** anything at that point. A good person will understand that words can hurt others and shoes not to use those words in a manner and which it is intended to cause harm. But a word spoken with no intent of harm is not a word that should be censored.

There’s nothing fundamentally flawed about its core. That’s been proven repeatedly in the medical and biochemical fields. Full stop. There is zero argument here. If you think there is one you are too ignorant to be even remotely making a informed claim. The problem is the misuse, lies, abuse and snake oil that is being peddled. That’s not a problem with the tech. That’s a problem with the people. Strip out the lies and bullshit those fucking retards are trying to claim and your left with a perfectly fine tool that when used correctly is extremely helpful and doesn’t actively fuck the environment.

Then you have either literally not even tried to look, or are objectively ignoring reality in favor of personal biases and possibly xenophobia. There’s plenty of issues, water problems, power problems, ethical concerns, etc. But claiming there’s been no productivity, growth or progress caused by LLM technology is objectively wrong. It’s like claiming that nuclear research brought zero benefits just because you disagree with nukes. It’s objectively on every level, retarded as fuck.

You are fundamentally going to hold different values and opinions of web comics regardless of quality, content and genre then a web comic artist. You also likely are a lot younger than him and missing literally decades of experience, nostalgia, conventions and professional interactions with penny arcade and it’s creators.

Not just the webcomic industry, but conventions, tabletop gaming, early game journalism, and so so many more. Penny arcade was in the early era of the modern internet a massively cornerstone. Like when I think of that era of the internet I think of things like total biscuit, Penny arcade, fourms, video game conventions, the rise of esports and league. So many things happening all at once. Much of the internet today is basically just running on the rails that was created during that era. We kinda only in the last two ish years started to see a new generation of the internet really start to form and stabilize.

The amount of effort it requires to create a useable work flow built around a genAI llm as the core instead of just a tool in the work flow is absurd. It basically takes three times the effort to get good results out of it when compared to doing it the old fashion way. And both require you to still actually understand art to actually produce good results. You can’t just tell an ai to shit out a picture and have it be good. No more then you can tell an artist to just shit out a picture and have it be good. Both require you to actually put effort in, go though the process and make mistakes fix them. Go back and forth and test ideas. And that’s the fundamental problem. GenAI is only good enough to at best do the equivalent of a rushed first draft with flat colors. It’s “good enough” not actually good. And the sort of people using genai arnt the sort of people who are going to go back and edit or clean up the picture. To test and try different things. Hell they aren’t even going to be the sort that custom tunes their model to actually produce what they want. They just take what ever generic shit model they can find and run with it. The difference between a generic model and custom trained one is night and day after all. But again the fucking idiots using gen AI ain’t gonna bother to do that let alone know how. Prompt jockeys are the least qualified people to use genAI. It’s comical.

It 100% can save cognitive load if used correctly. Knowing the limitations and restraints of your tools is true for every profession. If you know what your llm can and can not do reliably you reduce the over head of verification to basically zero. While if you use it poorly you basically have to double your work load to fix things.

The water and noise problem functionally has zero to do with llms as a tool. That is entirely and solely a byproduct over over expansion of corporate intrests. That’s like saying the lumber mill is the reason logging is harmful to the environment. It’s nonsensical and requests objective ignorance of the context and nuance of the problem There’s nothing that actually requires the data center problem to exist for llms to also exist. There are alternative.
