mastodon 4.7.3The German Astronomical Society (Astronomische Gesellschaft, AG) is the German national professional association for astronomy and astrophysics.
We are the German Astronomical Society (Astronomische Gesellschaft, AG)—one of Europe’s oldest astronomical associations, founded in 1863 and currently welcoming around 800 members.
Our mission includes organizing annual scientific meetings, fostering public outreach, supporting young astronomers, and encouraging astronomy education.
Congratulations to Heike Rauer 🎉 !! The Royal Astronomical Society (RAS) and the German Astronomical Society (AG) announce that Prof. Dr. Heike Rauer of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and FU Berlin is awarded the 2026 Caroline Herschel Medal 🎖️.

The 98th Annual Meeting of the German Astronomical Society was opened by our president, Prof. Stefanie Walch-Gassner, who welcomed all participants to Görlitz and set the stage for an inspiring week ahead. 🚀
We then celebrated our brilliant prize winners, whose talks highlighted outstanding achievements and new perspectives in astrophysics.
In the afternoon, the first splinter sessions dived deep into the many facets of The Restless Universe.
Save the date: The 98th Annual Meeting of the AG—under the theme “The Restless Universe”—will be held in Görlitz from September 15–19, 2025.
Expect plenary talks, splinter sessions, poster presentations, and working group meetings—including a Townhall session on the ESO strategy for 2040.
We warmly invite our community—researchers, educators, students, and astronomy enthusiasts—to join us:
🚀✨ Welcome to the first day of the Annual Meeting of the German Astronomical Society! ✨🚀
