Project Hail Mary
In which I read a sci-fi novel by Andy Weir. Ryland Grace wakes up millions of miles from home, memory fuzzy, crewmates dead, and confronted with solving why he is where he is. All he has to do is solve a scientific mystery that's threatening life on Earth. By himself. No problem. Right? The format of telling the story leading up to Grace waking up via slowly unfolding flashbacks, triggered by events in the present, that also reveal that backstory to the character is a fascinating one.

Patient Destinations
For all the
time spent
rushing and
impatient
to arrive at
the next
milestone
of your life
as laid out
by society
and ambition
the unspoken
truth of it is
that in the end
we all reach
the very same
destination
eventually.

I Think I’m in Love with an Alien
In which I read a sci-fi romance by Ann Aguirre. Tamzir Jaarn is Seeker, an alien tourist stranded on Earth. His tech is breaking down, food is a challenge, and he really wants to go home. Jennette Hammond is a nerd who's obsessed with aliens, awkward af, and itching to connect. Enter Space Con, where online friends can finally meet in person and nerd out together.

Abundant Excess
All of us
hope
for a little
excess
in life to
ease
our way,
extra
that we
keep
from the
others
left to
struggle
o'er the
scraps,
the leftover
bits that escaped
from the lush hoard
amassed by the decadent
few who watch while we
do the work guarding
their unearned
abundance.
