I really hope Europe gets off its ass and both assists Ukraine more, and partners with it for defense technologies. By raw GDP even many of the Euro fish would as big or bigger than the Russian one but we have an MIC that’s almost as bloated and corrupt as the US one. We need to get more efficient with our spending and I expect partnering with Ukraine is the only realistic way for that to happen.

I still don't understand how it can seem this way, and the fact that so many people seem to think so feels like a massive failure of the education system to instill the most basic of critical thinking skills. Once every month or two I check in to see if an LLM can achieve a half decent 1 on 1 D&D game and it always falls horribly flat within the first minute or two.

AI going from 'It'll make everything so much more efficient!' to deliberately doing everything as inneficiently as possible is just... idk beyond even satire at this point.

iirc Disney already has something akin to corporate extra-territorality and and republicans were floating a wider rollout of that during Trumps last term?

3D artist here, generative AI models are great at making work that looks super impressive while being completely unuseable for most applications, I suspect this is what most tech workers find too.

The UK has very fucked up land management, virtually all the capacity of the land to hold onto water has been destroyed in favour of dumping it into the sea as quickly as possible, the result is a country thats prone to both floods and droughts.

I think we're past profitable mattering at this point, even if the next model of chatGPT causes your eyes to bleed after prolonged use they'll *make* it profitable by forcing its use anywhere and everywhere no matter how inappropriate it is for any given application. We're already there with some products like cars and phones where we just get told what to want and ignored if we disagree.

iirc the robots worked but were remotely piloted? I can totally see a brand of rich person who would rather have the 'staff' be physically off site.

To be fair its absoloutely something you could build in reality within the realms of current science but nowhere near within current logistics or technology we actually have yet. Plus it would take a couple of thousand years and be more of satelite swarm than a solid shell.

This is why I just designated my phone as the privacy nightmare, no bookmarks, no logins (besides google which is also my designated privacy nightmare email) and no payment details saved on any browsers or anywhere on it other than what’s needed by my carrier to pay for my plan. Lets me keep in touch with family while keeping my main PC a bit more secure.
