Eye tracking comes with a distinct layer of technical infrastructure that is often underreported and not fully captured in other preregistration templates.

Libby Jenke and Nicolette Sullivan developed the Eye Tracking Preregistration Template to fill that gap. Now available on the OSF, this template guides researchers through the technical decisions that precede data collection—making those choices visible before a single data point is recorded.

COS defines 'lifecycle open science' as research with publicly accessible plans, outputs, and outcomes that are linked and findable. When those elements are connected, the work is easier for others to evaluate, reuse, and build on

Rodrigo Reyes Cordova studies how political identity shapes public trust in science. His research record links the preregistered plan, data, scripts, and publication—giving a clearer basis for understanding, checking, and trusting his work

Open science has grown from a niche movement to an increasingly established part of research. Open infrastructure has matured, and practices like data sharing are more widely adopted. As open science has evolved, so has COS.

On our blog, Executive Director Brian Nosek discusses how COS's strategy has evolved to support the growth of lifecycle open science and evaluating the effectiveness of open science to accelerate knowledge production.

📢 COS submitted a public comment opposing several proposed revisions in the White House Office of Management & Budget’s proposed Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance. We join 300+ orgs requesting an extension to the comment period, citing the scope, complexity, and impact of the proposed rule. This request has yet to be granted, and the comment period closes July 13, 2026.

On our blog, we share why we weighed in, our concerns, and how you can add your voice.

🗞️ A recent editorial in The Guardian draws on findings from the SCORE program to examine how replication results are interpreted, and the importance of weighing findings against a broader body of evidence in policy contexts.

“Not every failed replication signals a crisis... Results that don’t consistently replicate should be weighed against a wider evidence base when guiding policy.”

Research output is growing faster than the systems used to evaluate it. The Predicting Replicability Challenge invites teams to use automated approaches to predict whether research findings will hold up when replicated—testing whether these methods can help assess research claims at scale. In Round 2, all teams outperformed the baseline model—an improvement over Round 1.
