Lefty critter living in a windy rural Ontario town on the shores of Lake Huron. Settler on Treaty 45-1/2 lands. Love to talk labour and ecology. Hell yeah punk DIY culture.

Has anyone informed Iran or Israel that they agreed to a ceasefire?

Anyone here have experience with solar generator kits? The ones that have a small panel array and a battery unit with charge controller, power ports, etc. Thinking of getting a small one for power outages, occasional bush use, and the looming threat of civilizational collapse. Tips, brand recs, features to look out for, etc. are all appreciated. #advice #solar

Just revived my fucked up old laptop from when I was but a wee teen. One more piece of e-waste snatched from the gaping maw of the local dump.

I'm working toward a few preparedness projects around the house, and one of the things that was giving me trouble was that my main computer is tuned for gaming and so is a real power hog. Now, with windows stripped off the old laptop, hopefully it'll be a more suitable option for loss of power scenarios.

The battery appears fucked, but at least it doesn't have the draw of the desktop. So I might be able to run it off the (eventual) solar genny. And maybe I can also pick up a fresh battery for it?

And if it doesn't work out, at least it cost nothing in money or resources.

Wi-Fi stands for Wireless-Fireless, which was a marked improvement over the old Fired Wireless protocol where a routerlighter would have to ignite the pilot light every evening

You can tell it's election season in the US because global social media is once again flooded by democrats pretending they're going to take Texas this time for real

Double ovens are the best until you need to replace the heating coil in that tiny upper compartment. What is this, a maintenance clearance for ANTS?!

@idzie@kolektiva.social Oh yeah, basically everything around Montreal is hillier than here. We're a vast flat sea of corn and soy lol

@idzie@kolektiva.social There's a certain beauty to the flat, once you understand it and can learn to appreciate its subtleties. All functioning ecosystems are beautiful to me, in their own ways. Being able to see the very slight difference in plant communities from just a small bump or depression is actually really neat, but it takes more intention to see it. Cash crop farmageddon? Less beautiful.

@idzie@kolektiva.social It's hard to imagine that you have less than we do lol. Most of our topography may as well be SK prairie (if it weren't naturally a rich wet forest). There is cool topography at the escarpment, but that's far enough from me that I can't consider it my ecosystem, even if I go there regularly.

@idzie@kolektiva.social I live on the sandy shores of a great freshwater sea. Small rivers carve meandering paths through the glacier-flattened sandy loam soils. The river bottoms are choked with eastern white cedar navigated by nimble kingfishers, and the uplands hold sugar bushes and spring ephemerals where they haven't been cleared for cash crops and dairies. Some spots were too wet and wild to drain, so settlers left intact impressive tangles of flooded timber and wetlands full of blue herons and sandhill cranes.

Anyone could at any point strike Israel, so it's important that Israel be allowed to strike anyone at any time, in self-defense. Otherwise, they could potentially be the victim of an unprovoked strike.
