The "Principles of Paleontology. 3rd Edition" is absolutely legendary textbook -- as its Stanley/Raup predecessors. This book helped me to bootstrap myself into paleobiology. It is now 21 years old now. Science of paleontology needs new hard conceptual paleontology textbook.

"The Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (T-OAE, ~183 Ma) was a major hyperthermal event...Our simulations indicate the release of ~18,000 Pg C of predominantly magmatic carbon..." Wow, what a strange macro-microbe - Thiomargarita magnifica, cm scale bacteria which is far longer than most animals. Interesting case of things approaching boundaries of possible, given their body-plans.

A new genus of giant salamanders from Japan--Limnospondylus ajimuensis https://peerj.com/articles/21362/ from Pliocene. Currently there are just two genera. Reminds us of significant depletion of taxa during transition to ice ages. One even lived in Europe - Ukrainurus - "Ukrainian tail".

Litwo! Ojczyzno moja! ty jesteś jak zdrowie;
Ile cię trzeba cenić, ten tylko się dowie,
Kto cię stracił. Dziś piękność twą w całej ozdobie
Widzę i opisuję, bo tęsknię po tobie.
