Today’s amateur radio community networks began with just a few people linking sites to see what was possible. A microwave link between hilltops, an AllStar node, a tunnel routing traffic between friends…it all starts with someone trying an idea. What could you try with 44Net? #44net #44yearsof44net

44Net can be used across a wide range of setups, from home labs, repeaters, Raspberry PIs, cellular, and satellite, supporting experimentation wherever operators are. #44net #44yearsof44net #amateurradio #digitalcommunications

A few of our staff members will be attending SEA-PAC from June 5 - 7. If you're at the event and are interested in learning more about our programs and initiatives, feel free to say hello! #ardc #amateurradio #digitalcommunications #seapac

Getting started with 44Net Connect?

We’re seeing it used for everything from personal tinkering to regional networks, club systems, and EmComm.

This post covers what 44Net Connect is and how to get up and running: https://www.ardc.net/introducing-44net-connect-a-simpler-way-to-access-44net/.

On January 25, 1986, a winter storm kept Phil Karn KA9Q, Bdale Garbee KB0G, Mike Cheponis K6THZ, and Bob Hoffman N3CVL overnight in Harrisburg, PA after a Mid-Atlantic Packet Radio Council meeting. This sparked the ‘Snowstorm Brainstorm’ that led to the formation of the TCP Group and today’s 44Net Community. #44net #44yearsof44net #amateurradiohistory #networkinghistory

44Net links together volunteer-built networks over the Internet and over the air, using mostly off-the-shelf gear and shared know-how, continuing a tradition that started with homemade packet radio stations decades ago. #44net #44yearsof44net #packetradio #amateurradio

Our latest blog post highlights our 2025 Annual Report, which is now available on our website: https://www.ardc.net/a-look-back-at-2025-ardcs-annual-report-is-now-available/. #ardc #ardcnews #amateurradio #digitalcommunications #44net #ardcgrantees #science #technology

44Net addresses aren’t tied to your ISP, giving operators a consistent network presence across setups and locations. Run services, access remote stations, or move between setups without changing your addressing. #44net #44yearsof44net #networking

Reminder: our next grant application deadline is Apr. 1. We support projects across amateur radio and digital communications, with our priority areas being R&D, space-based communications, and open source education. Apply at https://grants.ardc.net/. #ardc #amateurradio #digitalcommunications

Snowed in during a Harrisburg, PA winter in Jan. 1986, Phil Karn KA9Q sketched what became CIDR notation for IPv4 addresses…on a napkin! #digitalcommunications #44yearsof44net #digitalinnovation #44net #technology

On 44Net, operators can run their own services, ranging from web servers to custom applications, creating a space to build and experiment beyond typical home network limits. #44net #44yearsof44net #networking
