Also every single teacher was required to tell you that WordPerfect was better. Many teachers I had would teach that it had essentially a markdown view called ‘Reveal Codes’. It would let you exactly control and see the formatting of the document. It totally addressed the issues in Word of mucking up a document the moment you drop in an image. Word afaik still doesn’t truly have such an ergonomic view. WordPerfect still maintains a niche in Legal and Education/Academia use because of the entrenched use of these formatting features. #vintagesoftware #vintagecomputing #schooldays #ontario #canada #retrosoftware #wordprocessing Screenshots of the versions I grew up with from https://winworldpc.com/

please no one tell corel growing up in ontario in the 90s, I was taught WordPerfect and QuattroPro. in elementary school my ‘dog ate my homework’ was that I’d bring my file on a .doc from Word from home and be like ‘OoOooOppssss I can’t print it I’ll have to bring it tomorrow as RTF’ (and then actually do the book report) – I am no longer this lame we can blame the cloud now. #vintagesoftware #vintagecomputing #schooldays #retrosoftware #retrocomputing
