hi again lovely #FediFrens 👋
yesterday’s #rec didn’t get me any answers on that combo so I’ll open it up to a couple of other options…
so – is anyone +running #Linux* happily [1] on a 14” [2] laptop with a GPU from #MSI, #ASUS #ROG or #TUF, (or others)?
requirements (somewhat flexible:
– light, pref. ~1.5kg +/-
– 14” max. unless it’s super-light with good battery (so a thin 1.5kg 15.6” or even 17” with 12 hour battery (🦄) would be fine 🤪)
– 64GB DDR5 RAM or more (more is better, DDR5 preferred but I’m flexible on that)
– good battery life, where “good” is >4 hours but longer life is better
– decent GPU, but it doesn’t have to be bleeding edge (a 40xx or even 30xx or equivalent would be fine)
bonus points for:
– switching between onboard & discrete GPU works acceptably
– sleep & suspend work (consistently)
edit: added the RAM requirement that I left out of v1 🤦♀️
I’ve added a RIDICULOUSLY HUGE (completely optional, obvs.) poll, pls reply with a different answer if you use something you think might fot my requirements 🙏 🙃
pls #boost4reach ✨💕✨ 🙏
#ASUSROG#ASUSTUF
1 or, more realistically, grumpily-but-acceptably 😜
2 or smaller, I guess

@ryan@social.binarydad.com I generally use #Quad9’s “Secured, with ECS” servers, which return results based on (truncated) geolocation data

if you don’t want any geo data going anywhere or prefer non-regional results, their default “Recommended Settings” is good

both of these options include malware blocking
Times of India | Lens on smart meter test process in UP
AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information.
The UP Rajya Vidyut Upbhokta Parishad (UPRVUP) has criticised the testing of smart prepaid meters in the state, alleging that the laboratory used—Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited’s (MVVNL) hi‑tech lab—lacks the necessary accreditation to perform the specialised tests required under IS 16444 standards for smart meters, being only authorized for conventional meter testing under IS 14697 and IS 13779. A four‑member technical committee formed by UPPCL, which includes IIT‑Kanpur professors Ankush Sharma and Prabodh Bajpai, examined complaints about meter quality, connectivity and performance, and sampled 24 meters from various manufacturers. While MVVNL’s Subodh Jha argued the lab could conduct the “accuracy subset” tests common to all standards, UPRVUP chairman Avadhesh Kumar Verma urged that future testing be confined to Central Power Research Institute labs, utility labs, or NABL‑accredited facilities with the appropriate scope to preserve public confidence, noting also that UPPCL had been found charging an unauthorised rate for IS 6444 smart meters.
