“They seemed like crazed shards”: a pack of pit bulls brutally attacked a corgi in Villa Borghese, the owner of the dogs has been identified.
Moments of panic last September 12th in Rome, where a puppy Corgi, named Cocca, was torn to shreds by a pack of pitbulls while she was with her owner in Villa Borghese. The dog’s owner, Mrs. Giulia, promptly decided to report what had happened, allowing the police forces to identify the man who was listed as the owner of the dogs.
Together with the man, who is homeless, three of the dogs responsible for the attack were also found, which led to the death of the Corgi puppy. Without microchips, the dogs were seized and separated and are now at the Muratella shelter, awaiting the start of a rehabilitation and behavioral recovery program.
“It was very important to have separated the dogs: those animals together were very dangerous; they had become a predatory pack,” explained Patrizia Prestipino, guarantor for the protection and welfare of animals in Rome City Hall.
“The turning point came after numerous reports and the courageous report by Mrs. Giulia. I spoke to her at length, her account is shocking, it’s understandable that she is still very shaken. She wanted to report out of a commendable sense of civic duty and to prevent a similar tragedy, which cannot leave us indifferent, from ever happening again,” Prestipino added later.
