They already caved.

On Wednesday, Patreon said Apple has renewed its requirement that all Patreon creators must move to subscription billing. The deadline to do so is November 1, 2026.

Expecting Patreon to not want to bother fighting them over it, and they are correct in that assumption.

Not that good, the backlash was immense and if I remember right, people were dropping patreon subs over it. EDIT: I might also not be remembering right. The thing I'm thinking of was an additional fee regardless of what platform you used to access Patreon.

It's kind of sad in hindsight. I remember around 8-10 years ago or so a conversation about unionization amongst programmers came up and almost universally the response was "lol why would I ever unionize? Just hop companies." Welp.

Agree headline is misleading. "Walking Back" implies reversing course, that is not happening. Plus we all know how *great* AI age verification is. Big empty "reassurance" there.

Not to mention the federal level bill that is so sweeping it applies to virtually everything.

I have Mint on my main PC but I put open suse tumbleweed on my laptop and I gotta say, I kind of love it. I probably won't swap my main PC unless Mint does something to upset me, but I'm glad I have a fallback.

Given how many scams have surged in recent years, I kind of agree with that parody statement.

Another option that has actually happened in other places: sue them into compliance! It doesn't even matter if you win or not, what matters is making people look down the barrel of legislative costs while you have infinite money!
