The fuuuucking annoying part is that these weight trained models would be perfect for translation models, compression, etc. An llm is already kind of a really efficient lossy compressor but you could actually make it lossless and an actual compressor if used properly. But instead people are literally telling llms to translate instead of training models that are for translating. The technology isnt the problem itself, its the industry and capitalism.

Its counter intuitive but a certain amount of irregularity helps languages. By far the easiest rated languages are isolating and lightly inflecting langauges, and from my experience this is even true if your native language is agglutinative. What a lot of these “easy” languages have in common is that theyre not inherently regular, they have irregular word endings and totally arbritary ways of constructing sentences in a way to convey meaning. On the other hand you have of course the languages that are just so irregular that theres no vibe you can go off of like in romance languages(theyre extremely easy to learn if you move to place where theyre spoken) like navajo. Many words go from “i mean that “s” or “a” fits there” to “why is the word form changing completely in this one specific case”, on other words you loose all grounding. But i believe the reason a lot of people struggle with highly synthetic languages is the exact opposite, you have to specify everything in the right way or your sentence wont make sense. In highly irregular languages any piece of a sentence could be very important to the meaning, in a highly regular language every piece of the sentence is important to the meaning and right in the middle are languages that mostly follow rules but not always. Also in very regular languages its often not possible to make the reductions which humans love to do. You might have to specify a piece of information over and over in different ways without it leading to the sentence being more understandable. Idk these are my two cents as a definitely native speaker of hungarian and kinda sorta native english speaker.

Yes, but, nuclear bombs. That matters much less for the usa cause im pretty sure russia literally doesnt have the capabilites to bomb the us cause of missile defense but for europe it matters.

Imagine it turns out he was using a racial slur against you in a click language, tho that still doesnt work cause as every person who reads a wiki page or two about click langauges should know that hadza and sandawe are the most northern ones and theyre spoken in tanzania which is much too southern for eritrea. Also theres dahalo but from what i undeestand it actually only uses clicks very infrequently. Please correct me if im wrong, i only read about language stuff on wikipedia in my free time lol

I mean this is really cool but at the same time doesnt seem usefull? Apparently the peak of modern combat is chinese drones with small bombs and a plastic fiber-optic cable attached to them lol.

Who doesnt love some trevor noah. Xhosa is also another case(or more accurately isixhosa) where it is a full click language but it is a part of the atlantic-congo langauge family(proposed to be a part of the niger-congo family). Most click languages you hear in pop culture are from this family but many theories claim that these mainly borrowed clicks from the khoisan languages. The khoisan languages are contraversial because they used to be classified as the same language family but that was only based on very surface level analysis and they are much more correctly classified into seperate families but khoisan is still a usefull term for their sprachbund(linguistic area where languages interchange vocab and features). Point is khoisan languages are much cooler, often possesing vary cool grammar, phonology or both. Many early classifications basically distinguished the languages in southern africa based on this. "Oh this language has clicks but other than that is pretty tame, must be an atlantic-congo language" and then "This is unhinged, why are there 80 consonants, 30 vowels, 2 tones and 20 genders(noun classes) in this language, lets just say its khoisan and call it a day". But yeah thank you for reading, or not reading my rant.

I just interpreted as a meme criticising how people automatically side with the "good side" whether it is actually good or just a puppet state that has to win. Ukraine is actually the good side and accidentally the west supports it. Palestine is actually the good side but they got unlucky and the west supports israel. If anyone is sane, ukraine and palestine both deserve peace because an agressor attacked them and theyre just defending themselves but in the west the narrative kind of conflicts itself cause they support ukraine and israel.

Bruh do you actually not get it. The point of rust is that its memory safe(with a huge grain of salt in the case of low level programming) and is a language you can write kernels in. Youre not gonna write a kernel in C# so it doesnt really matter for a discussion about kernels.

I agree that ethnostates are required today because its the only way to protect a group of people. Ideally ethnostates wouldnt have to be a thing. With how things are now, i think israel should also exist, its absolutely stupid to propose it be removed cause then you have the problem of a bunch of jews having nowhere to go again, and also a lot of the people there have never known a different home than israel. On the other hand they should be sanctioned and stopped from commiting constant warcrimes and palestinians live their lives in their rightful territory. The russia situation is a bit different. Theres no real reason for its existance. Its a bunch of russians opressing minorities, they should have their own country if were following the ethnostate idea. At very least european and asian russia should be seperate countries. But yeah thats never happening.

I dont think so. If(here is where my argument fails for most people cause i got really good education) your teacher thought you math properly tho point isnt the calculations but that you understand the logic. With ai the problem is the same with as a calculator that just spits out derivatives, graphs, etc by just typing in a formula. The reason you have to understand those is to be able to build upon it.

Yeah last time i spent 6(yes, six) hours talking about music to a neurodivergent recovering ketamine, heroin and alcohol addict instead of drinking. He doesnt drink(for the previously mentioned reasons) so it was a special occasion for me to go but still i usually skip parties.

Wat? WHAT? Ive not climbed anything close to shasta, we dont even have peaks that high where i live but im much much more responsible when planning. Who even goes “uhh yeah 6 hours sounds about right” to a peak above 4k??? I mean sure i can climb 4000 meters elevation in 6 hours, thats about my pace but you also have to get down and i imagine those are not easy trails. All if this is so stupid especially since they were climbers cause tou are not just climbing that high randomly, youd give up much faster but that means these idiots climbed stuff successfully before which is insane.
